Try using one of those 'heat patches".... They're awesome - all different brands.... Wear it at bedtime and they really help.

About two thirds of adults suffer from pain in the lower back at some point in their lives, with onset of symptoms occurring most frequently between the ages of 30 and 50. Medical history, aging, and injury are leading causes of low back pain, which affects men and women equally.
Barring a tumor or other serious underlying disease, low back pain often improves within one month without medical intervention. Staying in bed usually is not the best remedy, as more than a few days of immobility actually weakens your back and could cause symptoms to last longer. Gentle general exercise, including walking, will help to condition your body and back muscles for a swifter recovery. Other helpful approaches to relieving low back pain include alternating between standing and sitting positions, taking over-the-counter pain relief or anti-inflammatory medications, applying heat or cold, and massaging or manipulating the affected area. In some cases, corsets, injections, or traction may be advised by your doctor.
Once fully recovered, regular activity is essential in helping prevent back problems from recurring. Conditioning of back muscles is achieved by spending 30 continuous minutes each day walking, cycling on a stationary bike, or swimming at a targeted heart rate or by spending 20 minutes jogging. Conditioning works best when combined with normal daily activities at home and at work. Your doctor may recommend that you modify your approach to some of your routine activities to reduce the risk of irritating or reinjuring your back.
If low back pain is slow to subside (longer than one month), your doctor may consider conducting blood, nerve, or imaging tests to determine if there is a more significant problem causing the pain. In some cases, surgery may be recommended. Before agreeing to undergo any surgical procedure, you should assess all the risks and benefits carefully and make sure that you are aware of all nonsurgical treatment options. In only one case out of 200 is a low back problem due to a serious cause.

I bought a hydrocolator from CVS - it's about the size of a heating pad, but has baffles and is full of sand. You put this in a big saucepan and boil it. There are handles for you to grab to get it out. Lay it on 2 thickness of towels, and put it on your back. It's a heavy, moist heat and works wonders. Just make sure you never dry it out. When your done with it, just throw it in the freezer for the next time. About $40 in department/pharmacy stores.

this will work the best!!! get a towel and sew it up like a pocket, keeping one opening, fill it with a little rice, but not too much, so its still flexable and not stuffed. sew the opening shut and put it in the microwave for a little bit, not too long or it will get very hot! if you dont have the time to make the rice pouch, then just a hot towel will work, then just put it on the pain! good luck and feel better.

Practice Suryanamaskar (12 times) daily. You will be free from all types of back problems. I have been practicing it daily for the past 7 years. As a software engineer, I work 12 hours in front of my computer. Now-a-days, I am free from all back pains, which use to hurt me a lot before. Do adequate cat stretch before doing Suryanamaskar.

Try a heating pad but be careful not to get it too hot.Wrap it in a towel.If you have no pad try a rag or towel moist and heated in the microwave in a glad bag.Again not too hot.Around a minute in the microwave should work.

Have you tried a dry mustard pack. mix dry mustard with hot water,then put it into a damp hot towel, then put it on your back
