Currently I take Wellbutrin and Lexapro and I see a therapist. I will not say that I no longer have panic attacks, but they are way less frequent. Interestingly enough some times when I have a severe panic attack I fall asleep. My body and mind get so overwhelmed with stimuli, feelings and stuff, that I just shut down. I've seen babies do the same thing. When there is too much stimulation around them they fall asleep. Other times I can handle the attacks by focusing on something else, like music. Some times I can even manage to read a book. I am able to visualize scenes from books in my head, so reading helps to occupy my mind enough to overcome the panic.

There are a number of different ways. Someone earlier stated that panic attacks are mental. Actually, if you read about them, you will find that the chemicals in your brain actually become imbalanced so it is not just in your head as some people might say.
Depending on your symptoms and severity, there are a number of different things. Mine are severe, but with medicine (Zoloft) i have now managed to keep them down to about one attack per year. Zoloft has no effect on my mood or anything else. The only thing I can tell by taking is that I just don't have the attacks anymore.
If you don't want to take medicine after first, you might try deep breathing and some visualization techniques. I am a smoker and I also figured out if I smoke during an attack it helps slow down my breathing so I don't hyperventilate.
Hope things work out for you!

Hopefully you have a paper bag available! Take the bag and just blow in to it until you can take a normal breath. Panic attacks lead to hyperventilation, which makes you feel like you can't breathe so this will remedy the problem. If panic attacks are frequent ,you might want to make an appointment with your doctor so you can be treated with anti-anxiety meds. Most commonly prescribed drug is Xanax, a tranquillizer which is very effective in relieving panic attacks. Remember that panic attacks are just that and are not life threatening. So if you feel you need medication to control these attacks call your doctor for an appointment. Good Luck and stay calm!

I do not use meds. MY attacks are not as severe as most. First I do some breathing. I call a friend and then pray. If that does not work. I just try to sleep off my attacks.

Go see your local Doctor. Explain the symptoms, and your Doctor will know what to prescribe.
Try to take it easy and relax, panic attacks are usually caused by stress.

I leave where ever I am at and go to my car and sit for a few minutes talking myself down. If this doesnt work I call a family member on my cell and talk to them until I feel calm enough to return to what I was doing. I used Valium for a while.

I don't use meds, I have learned to use breathing exercises.
I used to be on xanax and zoloft, but decided I would rather live life free of drugs. It's been great so far.
They are purely mental - and with the right state of mind you can learn to control them wilingly. Don't worry about it so much.
