I mean, granted, I have no respect for any idiot who gives his money away to the church... he or she should know that the church will line its own coffers with the money.
Even so, the Church and its flock should be ashamed of 'suggesting' a 10% "offering" from its followers. Why not pawn off some of the splendorous riches in the Vatican instead of picking the pockets of poor simpletons? There's enough wealth in the papal palace alone to do what the tithe is SUPPOSED to do!

Communism was started by athiests. Over 100 million people were killed by communist in the previous century. So how is athiesm better?

You're lumping all Christians together with the Roman Catholic Church, not aot unlike the way bigots will say, "All blacks are thieves" or "All Jews are rich". And thanks for calling us all "poor simpletons". Very tolerant, mature, and educated of you.

Christianity has produced charities, built hospitals, orphanages, and helped millions of people. When there's a disater, Christians are the first ones there. When Hurricane Charlie hit Florida in 2004, the Southern Bastist disaster relief was there in no time to provide 1500 meals twice a day in Wauchula, FL alone to anybody who wanted it (and that's a much bigger feat than it sounds!) The Mennonites used their vacation time to come to Florida to help repair people's houses at no charge. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy the trucks, the industrial ovens, the generators, the refridgeration units, etc., etc., FEMA could have learned a lot from them. And that is just one small example.

You're also assuming most Christians tithe. I can assure you as a church treasuerer myself, most don't. I know I for one don't. It isn't mandatory.

While Christians may have made their mistakes, we also do a lot of good.

The church hasn't 'suggested' a 10% offering. That comes straight from the Bible.

I have found that while tithing, I actually seem to have more money to call my own than if I don't tithe.

I consider what one gives to the church to be something between the giver and God. It's nobody else's business what someone gives. Right now, I attend church but I don't give them my tithe because I don't feel they're being good stewards with my offering. That might be a poor attitude on my part, but God knows my heart in this matter so it's between me and Him.

I do agree that there are definitely churches out there who only seem to be interested in what's in it for them and they will be called to account for it some day.

Have a great day! : )

You know not what you are speaking about. The Catholic Church does not require anyone to tithe 10%. All tithing is given freely. And yes, the money is actually used for charitable purposes, plus the practical upkeep of churches etc. You also need to dig into the "wealth" of the Vatican - it would not go very far at all.

But the question for you is why are you so bitter?

A Bishop once gave a homily educating us that: The Church requests 10% tithing of your: time (prayers), talent (what gifts God gave you), and wealth.

Yeah, It's good to pray for 1.5 hours a day (10% waking hours) ... yeah, if God gave me talent in playing the violin, what's wrong with me sharing that in his name???

Tithing of wealth can be given to most any charity --- Red Cross, Catholic Charities, Soup Kitchens, Hospices, Medicine for the poor, and even to an individual in need. Of course, the Bishop was thankful when we Tithed in collections; but it was not necessary.

Catholic Charities helps more people than the Red Cross and Peace Corps combined. Money is used for food, medicine, churches, soup kitchens, woman's shelters, jail convicts, schools, and so much more. When I give here, I know that I'm giving to more than I know.

The collections at the Vatican are considered "Holy". God gave the talent to artists, and these fruits from the talents are shared with ALL people under care of the Vatican. Did you know that the Vatican actually tithes 10% of incoming tithes to other charities withing its Catholic Charities?

First, we're not all Catholics. Second the 10% was defined I believe in the Old Testament of the bible. It's not just 10% from the poor, it's also 10% for the rich. 10% is much more money when someone is rich. As far as robbing the poor, that 10% can be given to the poor. There are many ways to serve God, and He doesn't accept cash or credit cards. I hope this helped.

A few minor points that I would just like to make.

1. You can't generalize the word 'church' to the Catholic church...There are thousands and thousands of churches that have tiny buildings that are old warehouses, not gold plated bricks.

As for the ten percent, I do think that it is a fair number for a believer to pay. If you believe in God, then you understand that everything you have is from him, so what is 10%? With it being a percent, not matter how rich or poor you are, it is relative to your budget.

Also, The money I know my church (and MANY others) brings in goes directly into paying for the building (heat, hydro etc) and what is left (large number) is sent to those who are really in need. If you have a job and you go to church...Just think of it as you are giving that money to somebody who can't afford food...or a house...or anything.

And 10% is only a suggestion. If you dont like it, dont do it.

They lie and con you out of you funds. there's a huge distinction. each and all the tithers have become conned out of their funds. here is the info: For the priesthood being replaced, of necessity there is likewise a transformation of the regulation - Hebrews 7:12. And the notice of course basically confirmed some verses until now what the regulation develop into that it develop into talking approximately = And certainly people who're the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a COMMANDMENT to receive TITHES from the folk in accordance to the regulation... - 7:5. here mortal adult men receive tithes... - 7:8. Even Levi, who gets tithes, paid tithes... - 7:9. For on the single hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of the fact of its weak point and unprofitableness - 7:18. the only commandment suggested in Scripture there is the TITHE commandment. So the commandment that develop into annulled(v.18) is the tithe commandment. So enable all and sundry supply as he applications in his heart, no longer grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a joyful giver - 2 Cor. 9:7. yet a commandment to tithe is of necessity, and each and all the church homes i've got seen help you be attentive to to tithe, so as that may no longer how we'd desire to offer. they are conning God's human beings out of their funds so as that they might have their place of employment paid for, their abode paid for, and their automobile to be paid for, and to stay in luxury. whilst the folk they take funds from are destructive.

A portion of one’s earnings, usually one tenth, that are given to those who perform the work of the Lord since it belongs to the Lord (Lev. 27:30-33). Those who received tithes the OT consisted of priests (Num. 18:21-32). Further OT references are Gen. 14:20; 28:22; 2 Chron. 31:5f; Mal. 3:7-12).

In the NT there is no command to tithe a tenth (since we are not under law but grace). But the tithe is mentioned in Luke 18:9-14; 1 Cor. 16:1; 2 Cor. 8).

You are not supposed to pay a tithe at at all. That is an Old Testament rule which has been cancelled by the cross. It is actually a sin to tithe because you are ignoring Christ and are focusing on "the old laws". If you want to give, go ahead and give, but don't tithe.

If you have ever read the bible or been to Christian education of any kind you might of heard the story when Jesus was shown a Roman coin and was ask, What part of this belongs to Cesar
and what part of this belongs to God. Jesus answered give to Cesar which is Cesar's and to the Lord which is the Lord's.
The "church" quickly found a way to cash in on this statement.
Unfortunately they missed the message He was trying to convey.
What I feel Jesus was trying to say is give to the government all the worldly things he wants from you ( try not too ) but give your heart and life to the way Jesus tried to teach to live
