There doesnt seem to be any obvious reason why they occur. Can you suggest any causes? If you can suggest any solutions too, that'd be great!
(Im 21 years old, quite healthy generally, NOT overweight and I believe that I exercise more than the average person my age)
I used to get ulcers more frequently (once a month maybe) about a year ago, but it has been about 4-6 months since I last had one and then WHAM! Two at once.
To make matters worse, one is in the top right of my mouth on the inside of my lip, and the other attached to the underside of my tongue on the left side - so I my mouth is pretty much impassable when it comes to eating. I still eat (who doesnt?!?!) but it is bloody painful when I do.
Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

as far as who invented them blame your parents and all generations back to the begining of time.
as for the cause there are many causes. sometimes it is down to bad diet (too much sugar for example in my case), basic food allergies as can acidic foods (such as ketchup and vinegar for example) could also cause the ulcers to appear.
some STDs can cause mouth ulcers etc as far as i recal from my school days (18+ years ago).
now to treatment. you could always use a one CM (fingertip) squirt of a product caled bonjela in the UK. now follow the instructions and massge in. it stings for a few seconds but the ulcer goes dead as far as sensitvity to pain goes for a period up to three hours when you can repeat the treatment. up to 7 days.
hydrogen peroxide is a bleach (as used in hair dressing etc) this should not be put in the mouth unless you want to risk doing more harm than good. as for the bonjela approach you are advised (bonjela not me) to go to your GP if the ulcers have not cleared up within seven days of treatment.
without knowing you and your diet it would be impossible to know for sure as to what may be the cause of your ulcers. so try this. keep a record of everything you eat in as much detail as you can for a period not less than 6 months. now mark on the chart days when you notice an ulcer in your mouth and go back in time 24 to 48 hours to see what you ate. repeat this everytime you get an ulcer uptime five seperate occasions (when you have one or more ulcers starting on seperate days). you should now be able to identify a pattern to your diet and can now go through a process of modifying your diet by trial and error (by comapring days with and without ulcers to get a best guess match as to what or in what quantaties your body reacts and creates an ulcer.
i did this and i had two common factors, high sugar in my diet, most brands of mouthwash and all brands of toothpaste.
so i'm stuck in a rut.
I'm in agony anyway on a daily basis with the additional agony that cleaning my teeth adds to up my pain level.
i feel for you i have an ulcer right now in the middle of my bottom lip. and i was suffering until i stumbled accross a tube of bonjela in my medicine cupboard. (i forgot i had bought it).
anyway get well soon.

I myself get mouth ulcers. I am 23 healthy myself. I get them not that often but when I'm sick. My doctor gives me this magic mouth wash that numbs your mouth and you can't feel them. That is what she gives me, pretty much they heal on there own, not much can be done but numbing them. You can also buy some stuff at the store that will work too. I believe its called kanker sore or something like that, it helps out but not a whole lot. Even the stuff my doctor gives me helps for a bit, then the pain comes back before long. They are painful!!!

your "mouth ulcers" are cold sores. cold sores are caused by a virus. you can never get rid of that virus. stress adds to the breakouts.
there are some things you buy over the counter to treat these or you can get a script from your dentist or doctor.
i read recently that there is something in most toothpastes that irritate the skin that cause the breakout. i read it in a dental mag, and can't remember the specifics.
hope this helps.

Oh dear, that sounds painful. I don't know if they sell it where you live, but they sell it over-the-counter in Britain. Try Bonjela, specifically invented for healing ulcers and soothing the pain. You can probably buy it at your chemist.

Cold sores are caused by the herpes virus. Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

I am absolutely terrified and I feel so alone. I just found out last week that I tested positive for hsv1 and 2. I have been with the same man for the past 10 years and within the last year found out that he has cheated on me with numerous women. I am so scared that I can give it to my children by kissing them and them eating with me...I feel like my whole life has changed. And even though the nurses, my doctor, and websites say that a lot of people have it I still feel like I am by myself. My self esteem has dropped and I feel like I have been used up. But now, My life is very happy. Thanks
