No because very strict parents want the strict teachers, non strict parents would want the non strict teachers. When the school does it they get a mixture of both, and thats good. They get to see different learning styles and see how different teachers work.

Absolutely, because sometimes personalities clash or there are teachers that are not good at all. I think that a parent should volunteer in a school also so that they can get to know some of the teachers and what have you. I have seen myself so many things happen that can be damaging to a child.

Now the problem with picking your childs teacher is that sometimes some teachers are favored over others and not every child can be in the same class. So this can be very had to do. But it does not hurt to give it your best shot.

It all depends. You know you have current teachers thatstay then there are those whose time has expired at the school.Certainly you can write a letter to the school principal requesting that youwould like a certain teacher for your child. At our school we currently have a temporary teacher and the teacher my daughters class is meant to have for the following terms is fighting to keep his position at the school. In this situation we as parents should be allowed to keep this teacher on.As this is the final year and an important one then its important to have some consistency apart from the fact they have to sit a special test this year.

It would be nice. Last Friday I went to awards day at my sons school. There were 3 5th grade teachers (my son is in 3rd). 2 of the teachers were so enthusiastic and out going and the kids in their class were the same way. They also had great grades in those classes. The 3rd teacher talked like she didn't want to be there, when it was her turn to give awards for her class, she was like this won't take long, there aren't that many. Well which class would you want to be in? And try your best in? The teachers who are excited to teach or the one who acts like she doesn't want to be there? If I had my choice for my son it would be the excited teacher. So yes I think we should be able to choose for those reasons listed above.

At my daughters school we dont have a choice because there is only one class for each grade. When she attended a larger school we could put in a request for a certain teacher but it wasnt garenteed. As parents, we can choose who our day care providers and childs doctor is going to be - why shouldnt we be allowed to choose who is going to teach our children the foundations for life and education?

Honestly, no, not really. I think that parents should be included in the hiring of new teachers (through PTA) but they shouldn't choose their child's teacher for the year. Kids do need to learn to work with/under someone that they may not necessarily like and whose style is not necessarily similar to theirs. It helps them learn important job skills for the future. Parents cannot choose college proffessors for their kids, nor can they choose bosses and managers. It is important to learn to deal with people.

I think yes, mainly because if one of your older children had a tteacher and they didn't get along well/you didn't get alon well with them, then I think you should, but in some ways no, because parents may never pick a new teacher, even if she is one of the best.

I never really thought about it but I would have to say, no. I think we need to let our children learn to adapt to different situations/people/places. If we teach them at a young age that they are to be "catered" too, they are going to have a rough time getting along in life. Now.... if the teacher that they have is a complete bozo, well, I think talking to the principal is a must.

of course they should! its their kids education and if the child gets a bad teacher then the kid won't get any good out of the time they spend in school.
