Awww, poor baby.
Yes honey, its perfectly normal.
You just got him, he's an adolescent - He misses his momma, his little bothers and sisters. He's in a totally new environment, lots of new things to learn as well as how to get used to being on his own. As well as learning to appreciate you for being the "hand that feeds him" as well as learning to love you.
Please be patient as he's still practically a baby. Give him time to learn to be your best little buddy, and he'll eventually come out of his "shell".
If you want him to learn to "talk" more, you just have to meow to him like you're talking to him. Like - meow meow (his name) meow? Just don't do this around your friends, they will think you're crazy.
I got a cat from an animal shelter some years ago, he was full grown, and it took me about two years to get him to start to "talk".... Except now, he is constantly talking and won't shut-up, my other cats don't like hanging around him because he is always "talking" - like some people, you know,.... He's still a sweetie, other than his endless yaking (yeh he even meows softly in his sleep).
cheers babe !!!

Yes, often a new cat can be quiet. Don't forget everything is new to him. Firstly make sure there isn't a health reason though : Is he eating and drinking and otherwise seem healthy? Are his eyes are nose clear and not runny? Has he been wormed? If he is healthy then he just needs practise!
A lot also depends on where you got him from and whether he learned to play there or not. Sometimes new kittens have to be taught how to play and not all cats like to play with the same thing.
Get a small cardboard box, cut a little hole in it, large enough for him to get his paw in, then try trailing some string with a little bit of paper tied to the end, through it.
Keep playing with a range of toys, cotton reels, ping pong balls for eg. and he should soon learn.
Hope that helps.

It will take your kitten a little time to settle in. Ensure your kitten has some where to go that he feels secure like a comfortable box. Some breeds of cat are more excitable than others. Make sure that he is not lethargic and is eating and drinking. If you he seems too quiet then perhaps consider taking him to the vet.
But if he seem content and looks healthy and is eating and drinking then he is probably just a little wary in his new surrounding and i'm sure he will settle in in no time.
Good luck.

You said you just got the kitten. It takes a kitten a week at least to feel comfortable and at home in a new place - some kittens are fine right away. Perhaps your kitten is naturally skittish and therefore it will take him a little more time to "aclimatize." As long as he is eating and drinking well, allow him to get comfortable enough in his new surroundings to venture out and play.

She is quiet most of the time!!
But at first she did not play or make any noise!!
But after a few weeks she got used to us and started playing!!
Try playing with her more!!
Also, talk to her a lot!!

Some cats are just more timid then others. But to be safe I'd take him to the vet and have him checked out.
If there is nothing wrong with him. Then he just needs to get adjusted to your home. Leave him alone (ignore him) and he will come out of his shell soon. It usually takes a cat 2 weeks to get use to a new place.

The cat I have now has never really liked to play, even when she was a kitten. I would say it is just your cat's personality to be more laid back, but if you are really worried about it just make a call to your veterinarian to see what they suggest.

If you just got him and he is not used to you yet he might just be shy or a little afraid. If you look after him really well and love him then he will want to play with you soon enough

He's probably still getting used to his surroundings if you just got him. Trust me when he gets used to you and where he is you'll wish was still the quiet kitten, mine used to jump on everything that moved, feet, heads hands etc.
