Did your mom and dad tell you yes to everything you asked for as a kid? In all probability they said no, at least sometimes. This is because they knew that if they said yes it would not always be what was in your best interest and could even be harmful. You did not see it as such at the time, but they did. The same is true with God. He sees the long term effect of what we are asking for and sometimes we get a "no" because it is not good for us or in His divine plan for us. Sometimes we get what we ask for if it is a good thing and He sees it as something we need. If God gave us everything we asked for before we were supposed to have it, we would be very spoiled and would have no reason to fulfill the plan God has for us. He gives us what we need when we need it. Just like your parents did when you were little, God lovingly watches all of us and gives us what is needed when He thinks we need it. You know it is from God when you ask and receive what you wanted. The Bible says that all good things come from the hand of the Father.

This is a good question just today i went to a devotional and it was said that all prayers are answered in some way. Sometimes like my prayers might be no because i am not suppost to do the things that i want to do. I listen and get answers to the prayers sometimes they might come from a friend or from reading the scriptures. I listen to my prayers and when i get a no response for doing something then i will not do that thing because i know that the lord does not want me to do that.

Sometimes the answer is no, for our own good. We don't always want what is good for us. When you don't get what you ask for maybe their is a higher purpose that overrides what you want. We don't always understand God's answers. I found that if I listen for an answer after I ask God a question, I often get a strong feeling of yes or no. When it needs a detailed answer it can come to me in a thought, that I wouldn't expect from myself.
When my husband had cancer I was very afraid, I plucked up the courage to ask God if my husband would survive the cancer. I got a clear and direct thought that my husband and I would have a long and full life together. It was an amazing relief and I was able to cope with his illness and the family while going through this trauma for six years. My husband is now in remission three years.
I did notice that the word happy was not included in Gods answer, I get the feeling that happiness depends on the decisions we make. God bless you.

God answers the prayers of His children. He is a heavenly Father. Just like an earthly father He wants what is best for us in the long run, only even more. So the answer to prayer can be yes, no, or not at this time. We can only see little bits of our life like puzzle pieces. He sees the whole picture.

Peace!
God answers ALL prayers in a way that is best for us. We are all in different stages of spiritual growth, so his answer depends on whether we are ready for what we are asking. God also expects us to help ourselves.
We also have to be reasonable when we ask.. For example, we may ask the Lord to give us good weather because we are going to have a garden party. But the farmer on the other side of the mountain is praying for rain so that he will have a good harvest. Whose request do you think will God answer?
God bless

No prayer has ever been answered. Period.
Ask anyone to show proof that a prayer was answered -- they can't. Oh, sure, some will say, "but I prayed for it to rain, and it rained!" OK, but how can you show that was an answer to a prayer, and not just plain old rain that was going to happen anyway? You can't. There is no proof.
I'm constantly amazed by the logical and linguistic contortions that christians will go through to try and show that there is anything at all to prayer. But none of it makes any sense, it's all just superstition, myth, and wishful thinking.
Try using the brain nature gave you, and think about it logically and reasonably -- you'll very soon see that there is no answer to any prayer, ever.
Welcome to the real world.

Sometimes people dont have the faith. Sometimes others believe so strongly that god can heal and answer prayer. But sometimes people ask god for stuff like being rich or bringing then wealth or stuff that isnt reasonable...but if yours is reasonable just have the faith and you can move mountains.

I think that even if they arent answered in the way you expect them to, they are still in some way heard and answered by God. He knows whats best. Everything happens for a reason. If God doesnt intend for whatever it is youre praying about to be that way, it wont be. Ya know? I believe He is always listening, and He will help you!!
Maybe instead of praying for one certain thing. Pray for Him to deal with your problem(s). Leave them up to Him. Ask him to guide you in the right direction. Pray for Jesus to be along with you. For him to be by your side, and to help you do what God wants!!
Im not very 'smart' in all of this. If thats the word. But Im learning to trust God more!!
just a little edit!! I think that the "well travleled" guy above my answer will one day have a rude awakening!!!

When prayers are not answered, it can be for a variety of reasons.
1. If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:" (Psalm 66:18)
2. "You ask for something but do not get it because you ask for it for the wrong reason-for your own pleasure." (James 4:3)
3. "...Honor them as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing may interfere with your prayers." (I Peter 3:7)
4. "You will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, if you believe." (Matthew 21:22)
5. "But whenever you pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "When you are praying, don't say meaningless words like the Gentiles do, for they think they will be heard because of their wordiness. Don't be like them, because your Father knows what you need before you ask him." (Matthew 6:6-8)
You can tell how He has answered your prayers by making a specific list of your prayer requests, and then make a space to mark the answers when you get them. You should keep praying until you get your answer. (Luke 18:1ff)

Have you seen the movie, "Bruce Almighty" with Jennifer Aniston and Jim Carey??? Movie does a great job answering your question.
God love you and sometimes you need to learn what is good for you and what is bad for you. Sometimes we think we know what will make us happy when in fact, it will really make us sad/angry.
Prayers are ways for us to fulfil the living relationship with God. What would happen if you and your best friend stopped calling/ texting/ e-mailing/ and hanging out??? We too need to be praying to God to keep the relationship going. This involves: thanking him, asking for stuff, and silencing our minds to hear what he says to us through the Bible, Chruch, Family, friends, and ppl like me who answer random question on YA.
God Bless ... hope you find that happiness God wants 4 u.
