Well every student is different. Watching television will only effect a student's grade for several reasons:
1) If the student is watching television instead of doing their homework, they will lose points in class for not doing their homework
2) If watching a certain program is apart of a class assignment, and the student watches the program religiously then their grade should go up
3) If watching television for numerous hours makes the student to tired to perform the next day in school!

Unless you are watching something germane to your coursework, as on the Discovery or History chanel, the stats show that TV does have a deleterious affect on student grades. Part of the problem is that too much time is spent in a zombie like state, watching TV instead of thinking, interacting with other people, or exercising your brain. Another part of the problem is that too many children do their homework while they watch TV, which means the homework doesn't get their full attention, and they aren't really absorbing the material they are working with.

yes it does. T.V can make you get distracted and can function very well in classes and it will lower you're grades. Also t.v can damage your brain by watching it too much and you won't be able to think. Example: one night you're watching t.v till 1:00am. Then at school when you go to your first class and the teacher asks you a question, that person will just say "uhhhhhh huh"?
and then your teacher will know that you are not paying attention. That is how t.v can have a effect on student grades.

yes, a direct correlation, proportion, effect. The more time you waste watching tv the less learning and thinking you do, thus poor grades.

Well, it depends. If you are trying to study or do homework, and the TV is distracting you, then it might.
