If your boyfriend is the father of your child AND if the baby was born in 2006, he absolutely can claim the child. No question there at all!

Now, since you did not have any income at all, lived in the same household with him and received more than half of your support from him, he can claim you as a dependent as well.

(I'm assuming that you're not legally married to someone else and that your relationship isn't illegal under the local laws where you live.)

Now, as he is supporting and living with his child he can also file as Head of Household. That will lower his taxes too.

And if his earned income is less than about $32,000 he can also claim the Earned Income Tax Credit or EITC as it's also know as.

Tax-wise, you folks have pretty much hit the jackpot!

Hit the IRS website at http://www.irs.gov and grab a copy of IRS Pub 501. It will tell you everything that you need to know about exemptions and filing status. Also grab a copy of IRS Pub 596 to learn all about the EITC.

Yes, he can claim both of you under qualifying relative as long as you had income of under $3300.00, lived together all year, and he provided over half of your support for the year. See page 20 in the Instruction book for the 1040 Form.

are you in ontario? If so, if you have been living together for 3 years, you are common law so you have to claim eachother on each of your taxes...it is just like you are married.

As for if he can claim you as a dependant, no, he can't. Even though you didn't work, you are not considered to be a dependant as you "could" support yourself if you wanted to. He can claim the baby though.

No....But you can file your own to try and collect earned income credit.
Or...he can claim the child if it's his....but not you.
The best bet is to have him claim the child....shoulda got married.
