Satanism is a word which has been used over the years to describe a number of different belief systems in a number of contexts. People claiming to be Satanists—or outsiders claiming to describe Satanism—ascribe a wide variety of beliefs to this movement. These range from the literal worship of a malevolent spiritual being (Theistic Satanism); to a kind of subversive ritual performance stressing the mockery of Christian symbols (most notably the Black Mass); to the claimed rediscovery of an ancient but misunderstood religion (e.g. Setianism, which conflates Satan with the Egyptian god Set); to the exaltation of hedonistic recreation, and the celebration of selfishness and pleasure.

The most prominent and widely known Satanist in recent years is, and was Anton Szandor LaVey, who founded the Church of Satan in 1966. LaVey wrote The Satanic Bible (1969) and other works which remain highly influential (though controversial) among avowed Satanists. LaVey rejects the Black Mass, cruelty to animals, or a literal belief in (or worship of) Satan. Instead he supports a view of human beings as animals and rejects many social structures that inhibit our instincts.

Though there are a few who say that they worship Satan, I think the idea of Satanism is pretty much a fundamentalist Christian idea . . . . . you know, if you don't worship our God and believe that all the primitive fables of the bible are literally true, then you must worship that other guy. And who is the other guy? . . . It's Satan. It's classic good vs evil, white hat vs black hat. And it's no more simplistic than most of the other stuff they believe . . . you know, Adam and Eve and every human being on Earth being the result of incestuous sex between A & E's kids, talking serpents, Jesus cursing a perfectly innocent fig tree and making it wither and die just because it didn't have any figs when he walked by hungry, God intentionally drowning thousands of Egyptians, God carving us messages in stones, and on and on.

There are several different forms. The main Church of Satan is a group who treat Satan as a concept representing Earthly power and desire and do not actually believe in God or the Devil. They tend to view Christians as mostly a bunch of hypocrites....
Then there are others called Thiestic Satanists.(who actualy worship Satan as the liberator of mankind) who are different from Luciferians...oh boy it gets complex with these "left hand path" folks.... (not that all Luciferians concider themselves Left Hand Path!) You would realy need to do some reading to even begin to see the whole picture.

Satanism is not a religious doctrine, but a set of ideas, memes, or misconceptions found in society and culture.

Shared ideas include Satan as a malignant deity, a literal Hell of fire and eternal damnation, and an opposition to God, Jews and Christians. Imagery includes Satan as a Satyr or goat-like figure, with a tail, horns, and cloven hooves, or demons with a similar appearance. Flames, pentagrams, inverted crosses, 666, and a red-black color scheme are often present.

Ideas about the practices of Satanism include ritual human sacrifice, animal sacrifice, occult ritual, secret practices, secret societies and memberships, numerology and occult imagery, worship of Satan or other deities, practice of black magic, sodomy, sex rituals, chanting, black robes, bonfires, etc.

First of all the word Satan means
Slander, becuase he lied against God,
he deceived Eve, and he told Eve that
if she ate of the fruit that she would not
die, which was completely untrue.
Satan began with his lie which in turn
eventually led the world to the way it is today.
But just a little while longer, notice what
Proverbs 2:21,22 reads. Rev 21:3,4.

It's a philosophy/religion based on a book (the Satanic bible) written by Anton Lavey.

Here's the 'concept':

http://churchofsatan.com/

It's basically a religion based on 'dark' ethics.

Pretty cool, but still a religion, which means 'limits'...

edit:

there is also 'devilworship' completely different, here's some info:

If you really want to know about it, go to your local library/bookstore. They should have a copy of The Satanic Bible by Anton Lavey. It's certainly very interesting.

Don't know too much but there is an actual church of Satan that worships satan. It is something I would stay away from. I don't know the liturgy of there religion. But Satan is real and a serious enemy of mankind.
