The gospels will help you to know Christ. The books of 1,2,&3 John will help you to know that you know Him. But the best way to feel closer to God is to talk to Him constantly. Once you have a good communication going and have repented of sins then ask Him to let you feel His prescense.

Right now for me I'm trying to get a better sense of who God is. So I'm studying the old testament. And I am getting closer...I'm Reading about Moses leading the Hebrew people out of Egypt.
