Have you considered renting the bridesmaid dresses? It solves the budget problem and the ladies aren't stuck with dresses they'll never wear again.

David's Bridal is great not only because they are relatively inexpensive but also, because they are a chain store, chances are any out-of-town bridesmaids could go to one where they live for fittings, etc. They also have a wide range of sizes and will do alterations which is great because no two people are shaped exactly alike.
It may be a little cheaper to get dresses at a department store but it's much less likely they'll fit all your maids properly. If you do go the department store route, please think about the body types of your maids when choosing dresses. You will usually have better luck fitting everyone with a two-piece, and stay away from spaghetti straps and open backs if you have larger-sized bridesmaids since they will have a very hard time finding a strapless bra that fits well.

I agree with the two answers above, I have never heard of the bride paying for the bridesmaid gowns either. What you can do if you're daring, this is what I did lol… I told my bridesmaids what color I wanted their dress to be and I let them do the picking... my only request was the color and that they all are the same... Worked out well, of course that was many many years ago lol.. Best of luck to you!

I would try just a department store, get a simple dress that can be dressed up with hair, make-up and jewellery. If you look at what the celeb's are wearing alot of dresses similar can be found at the local department stores.
Also you could try ebay. A friend of mine got her bridesmaides dresses from ebay, they were cheap and gorgeous (the were a replica of the dress Kate Hudson wore in how to lose a guy in 10 days) she just sent them the measurements for the bridal party and they made the dresses and sent them to her - although she did get them dry-cleaned before they wore them.
Goodluck.

You can always go to a wholesale distributor like David's Bridal to check out the prices there. The dresses are usually within a hundred or two dollars.
Sample sales for designers are also FANTASTIC places to go as the dresses are sometimes within a hundred dollars and are absolutely beautiful!
If you are looking for great deals...stores like JCREW now also have a bridesmaid dress line which looks fabulous and is very affordable!

Bridesmaids buy their own gowns so I don't see how this affects your budget. Although it is a really good idea for the bride to pick an affordable gown. You can get gowns for under $150 each at Davids.

I have never heard of the bride paying for the bridesmaid dresses. I know many brides, have known many bridesmaids, and was a bride and bridesmaid before. Where did you get the idea the bride pay's for those things? I hope you are not paying for the rings to.

ebay! often times you can find a dress that all the bridesmaids are getting rid of. Do you know anyone who sews? Oh and the bridesmaids should all be paying for their own dresses, it shouldn't affect your budget.

My bridesmaids actually decided to buy there own dresses. I showed them my pick and the price is around $99. They were fine with that pick. It saves me money and since they all offered to pay for their dresses we are all happy

Shop at department stores online, they will have a bigger selection of sizes and you can shop by price. If, when the dresses come, most will also send a paid shipping bag incase the dresses don't fit. I did this for my wedding. Only one dress didn't fit one of my four bridesmaids, but we had it altered. good luck.
