Be a Big Sister, or a Big Brother to a
young child, in need - who has No parents,
or is neglected by his/her parents, because
they simply throw their children in front of
the T.V. instead of spending quality time
with them.
Be a Big Sister -- to a young say, 9 - 12 yr.
old girl.
Good Question.

There are opportunities all around you!
It would be good if you would ask people that you interact with everyday if they know of any organizations that could use your help. We all have gifts that we can give. Perhaps you could help with an after school program working, read to an elderly person who has lost his or her sight, or lead a sing a long at a nursing home. It's always nice to mow someones lawn who is no longer able or even help them paint their house. You can volunteer at your local library, food pantry, or community center. Even driving someone to their doctor's appointments can be a big help.
I'm sure you will find lots of opportunities and will enjoy helping others! Good luck.

I hope you want to do this because you want to and not just because you need it on your college application. Actually, if it's the latter, so what - go do it anyway. You may just enjoy it.
There are lots of opportunities around. You need to decide what you want to do, and what you feel comfortable doing. I volunteer time at a local crisis pregnancy center, translate Spanish, teach English, play music at a local retirement home, and work as a general helper at a Salvation Army store.
Even if you don't know, just try something. Seriously, you will probably discover you can do things you didn't know you could, and you will probably find you enjoy them more than you thought.
Best wishes!

You can give back to your community or any community by tutoring children, assisting the elderly with learning to use the computer, you can organize a clean street day. What ever you do just know it will make a difference.

You can volunteer at a convalecent or hospital, a homeless shelter, as a big brother/sister. You can volunteer at a soup kitchen, or a school.
Do a food/clothe drive.

see if you can volunteer at any of the local services (ie. police station, old folks home, schools, fire department - although this may require special training).. do some clean up at one of the local parks.. see if you can volunteer to be a mentor for a elementary aged child..
