I couldn't agree with you more. It was great for USA people to go to Italy, just a few years ago-affordable. But turth is that the Lire is no more and the US government has made a mess of its finances, reputation and more then this category warrants my expressing, leaving the dollar in a sad state. The Euro is most probably going to remain strong, especially now that it is the currency of the European Union. Think of it this way though-if you do go to Italy and then cross the border into other countries you don't have to think about changing currency again. It is toughest on young travellers, or those on a budget, as even what was once concerned budget accomodations in Europe are high now, due to the weak dollar. As Flavia said, it's their turn to travel!

This is an unanswerable question. Nobody can known it. You may just hope (or wish) it ever happens but there is no one single person in this world who may know this for sure.We just can speak about the past and this is well known....In the early beginning of €uro the rate was 0,80 US$ against 1 €uro while now you pay 0,76 €uro to buy 1 US$ (and at the tourist exchange rate is even worse as you need about 1,40 US$ to buy 1 €uro).
Economists are saying that the €uro is overrated and US$ value is worthier than the official rate but it seems that US Government is not doing anything to bring it back to the equality with the €uro for not damaging US exports.
The matter is beyond our direct control and then we cannot say what will really happen in future.Should people know that for sure then they would buy or sell depending on their knowledge but at the status this would be a real bet.

When the Euro was first introduced in Italy, a lot of people disliked it but I think now everything is okay.

Which dollar are you talking about? The USA, Canada and Australia all use different dollars.

Let´s hope that the Lira does not come back.....
As to the future of the EUR vs.USD, I suggest that you invest mainly in EUR and not in USD. EUR is the future !!
