My brother and his girlfriend have known each other for about a year and a half. They are both sophomores in college. Though they have known each other for a while, they have never really dated because her parents will not allow it. Her family is very religious and doesn't think my brother is religious enough. Because of this, they have recently told her that if she dates him, they will take her out of school. (She's 19 years old.)

What can he do in this situation?

She can lie. Then pray for God's forgiveness.

Wow Tough One. There are no clean ways out of it. Your brother could take an interest in becoming more religious and showing this to her parents. If they sneak around and her parents find out...it could be a disaster. If they are truly meant to be together then they can put off having a relationship until after college. I know that that is a long stretch but it beats the alternative of her being taken out of school and ruining the relationship she has with her folks. Swaying the folks on this one won't be easy. Tell him good luck!

Continue to see her. I mean no respect for the parents, but when two people are meant for each other, no one should come between them. How will they know they are right for each other if they do not have the opportunity to spend some alone time together?? I question the rational thinking of these parents. They would actually deny their daughter an education because she is not involved with a young man they want to select for her ? That is very archaic thinking. If she follows this line of thinking, she will be doomed to an unhappy marriage just to please her parents and always wonder where your brother is and what he is doing. Quite frankly, narrow minded people all over the world do some very stupid things in the name of religion.

well they cant do anything to her for going out with someone that she wants to be with shes 19 and they cant take her out of school either i think she should sit down with her family and tell them that shes an adult and she is going to live her life the way she wants and that her bf makes her happy and that she would like their support in their relationship and ask them if they dont want her happy i hope everything works out between them good luck

Tell him to go and speak with her father. I dated the daughter of a Baptist preacher once, and it wasn't easy. Once he got to know me better and knew I was a nice guy, he kinda "overlooked" the fact that I wasn't a Baptist myself.

If he thinks she is worth waiting for, and she thinks he is worth waiting for, then they should wait.
