You need to realize and with Chinas' satellite shot wake up and smell the roses; going to the US Army War College. China can deliver a nuclear blow, as well as, a man power blitz. In October 1950, China entered the Korea war and kicked our butts. They dared us to drop the atomic bombs on them. They knew their population was so large that for us to be able to put a dent in it would have caused so much atomic energy to have been expended the world as we knew it would have ceased to exist. Well, they have even more people now; we would have a hard time using nukes on North Korea, as due to their proximity to South Koreas we would be killing an ally. The North Koreans rolled over the South in 1950 but would have a harder time this time but would prevail. Japan has a non-aggression Constitution but I believe they would have to come to the aid of the South. If not and the North wins and eventually rolling over Japan. I don't think American could stop them this time, too much political correctness plus bog brother China. No, North Korea would not be someone anyone should wake up! Oh and by the way, our defeat and China winning would have nothing to do with our forces being any where else. As the CIA tried to tell every President from Truman to Regan, you can have a superior ship or aircraft but if you have three ships, firing at the one or five jets to the one the many will win. For example, the CIA and NSA now are admitting the new diesel class sub by the Russians; North Koreans and Chinese are as quiet as our Nukes. The only advantage of our nukes submarines is they run longer.
No, only kids, literates and that bunch of professional losers believe that garbage of aggression. Have you ever wondered why China is everyone friend and why everyone in a political situation listens to them and takes their advise? Instead of butting in and telling a country what to do, killing someone to get it down the Chinese listen then listen some more negotiating any and everything and you know what it works.
By now you’re as pissed as I was when I learned of this revelation. Let me make you madder there are military who rather then planning their retirement at one of the weapons manufacturing companies have been urging changes arguing that with a change in our weapons buying we could easily regain the lead and gain supremacy where the anyone would do as they are now hesitate and say we would take a beating but win. They would instead say that would be too big of a as* whipping so lets kiss and be friends.
When I argued what I thought was true the instructors pointed the Viet Nam and Korean events that being no amount of weapons could or did stop the massive human wave attacks. People need to realize we could use nukes but to get to a point with either Korea or China the Earth would be poison. But again there are weapons systems that we could obtain that would resolve this problem.
God Bless You and The Southern People.

Carlos ... Christina has a good-sounding answer. In fact, I was going to agree with her. However, I've checked the Defense Department's official statistics on deployments of U.S. military personnel worldwide (as of June 2006). I see no mention whatsoever of Taiwan ... None! (See my source, below)
What would happen? I suspect that our intelligence resources might know if any actions by the Chinese were imminent. When it begins to appear China might be making a move, you can expect to see a couple of naval task forces redeployed to the immediate vicinity. This would anger the Chinese to no end. What ever happens next would be completely up to the Chinese.
Other than the redeployment, hopefully little other action would occur. Then some serious, heavy-duty diplomatic activity would commence. And I hope things would begin to cool off afterward.

Nothing since China owns Taiwan according to U.S. politics so technically China can't take over what they already have.

Taiwan is an allied nation. If China attempts the use of force to take them, we will step to their defense, as would Japan. The sad thing is, in order to wipe out 1/3 of China's population, you don't even need a nuke. A single ballistic missle equiped with a standard explosive warhead, if fired at the world's largest dam, would devastate the Chinese beyond their capability to recover, and still sustain an occupational war in Taiwan.

I believe we have a treaty with Taiwan that provides US Military support and defense of the island. We also have military bases there so an action like that could be perceived as an assault against the US also.

Before Mr Bush ruined the Military and put the US in debt to China to pay for the Iraq Disaster and divided our allies, we would have forced the Chinese to back down.
But Bush has a hard time browbeating his bankers, the Communists and the bin Laden's
