When they're first done tattoos always appear very bright and it's normal for their 'true' colour to be slightly more muted. Bear in mind that what you've been looking at initially is a scab that's been sort of dyed with the very bright tattoo inks, and is sitting on the surface of your skin; whereas the tattoo itself is beneath the surface layers of your skin.
It's also normal for the skin to be dry and flaky for a while after the scabs have come off; this is part of the healing process and may also make the colours in your tattoo appear lighter.
The other thing which may have happened is that some of the colour has 'dropped out' - this can happen when parts of the scab come off before they're really ready to, taking some of the colour with them. This isn't uncommon, nor is it a disaster if it has happened to your tattoo.
Don't panic. I think your best bet is to wait another couple of weeks until your tattoo is completely healed, and then if the colour really isn't right, go back to the studio and ask the artist's advice. If necessary you can get it touched up to remedy any areas of colour that aren't quite perfect - again, it isn't uncommon for people to get this done, and it's not a problem.
Hope this helps!

OK first off i have read some answers and i will tell you straight up.it is to late to do anything about you're tattoo now if it is scabbed leave it be!when you pick at a scab you pull the ink out of the skin. causing fading.and as it may be too let for that tattoo. you're next one will be better lol yes you will get another 1NEVER USE VASELINE.it only covers it up and does not let it heel properly i have five tatt's now and never had to have a touch up unless i decided to quit half way through which i would never do. use curell no scent it is the best i have used as of yet only use a Lil bit just to cover it not a whole bunch to where you cannot see it and just keep it cleaned you can wash the blood off it washing three to four time's a day this will help it heal with out scabbing all that much remember scabbing is a bad thing. it is very addicting happy inking to ya

Use a non scented lotion like Lubriderm. DO NOT USE VASELINE. The petroleum keeps the skin from "breathing", the tattoo needs oxygen to heal. It is healing and may take a while to fully heal. Do not wear tight clothing. The colors tend to fade a little but once the tatto heals all the way, the colors will come back. I am dark skinned and mine do fairly well.

You should keep the tatt moisturized at all times, so in the future be sure to keep applying cream every time it drys up, but do not put too much on just enough to moiston the skin.Lubriderm unscented is great. Do not use anythhing like polysporin as its process is based on infection and is designed to pull out anything that should not be in your skin.(in your case ink) To keep the skin from drying out you should not use soap, hot showers, and stay out of the sun/tanning beds as it naturally fades tattoos. Most important is to rinse off the tatt before every application of cream to aviod infection as dirt and microbes cling to the cream. Also, colour fading in tatts is common as the skin doesnt absorb colour pigment as well. Follow these instructions and your next tatti will be great

If you swam at all or was expoesed to the sun then it could have faded. Or if you didnt keep it wet with th lotion they give you, which is coc- butter then it could have faded. Otherwise If it is fading there is nothing you can do except wait a few more days and go down there and show him that it faded. Most likely if he is a well respected artist he will fix it for no fee.

Don't scratch or use anything to get rid of the flaking. It's healing. Also don't use vaseline. It will only help to dry out the tattoo. I know that some people tell you to use it, but don't. Use a non scented lotion like Eucerin to put on the tattoo. Also use Aquaphor which can be found in the lotion section.

Keep adding the Vaseline, savalon works as well Usually the colours look alot darker as they scab over and lighter when the scab comes off. Any major concerns go back to the tattooist and ask for an opinion. They will always offer post tattoo care advice.

if you haven't been picking at it and if you have been using the skin product (mine suggested neosporin) that your tattooist recommended the dead skin will have to slough off and will look odd for a month or so... keep it moisturized and don't pick off dead skin (scab), let it come off naturally. if you pull at it you may pull off more than the first layer and be causing the color mottling yourself!
remember, pinks and reds are the most difficult colors for the skin to hold. they always fade, but it shouldn't be that fast.
if after a few months the final color looks off then go back to tattoo artist and have them add more pigment
good luck!
oh, and don't loofah or exfoliate, this just makes it worse. and always keep sunscreen on it in the summertime!
could it be that the artist did some shading, they usually do

This is normal for a tattoos. Make sure that you are putting something on it to moisen it. It will fade more if you don't. Tattoos will fade that is what happens. They are in your skin. Just keep it moise and you will be fine and the color will stand out more after the healing.

if it is peeling that bad that isnt normal, a little peeling is good but it shouldnt take the color. did u put tattoo goo or a&d on it and are u still doing that? if you did then either u somehow got rubbing alcohol or neostporin on it or the artist did not go deep enough.
just keep putting a&d on it and when it stops peeling go back to where u got it and any self respecting tattoo artist will fix it up for u if he messed up.
