I landed in the digital world with a Nikon Lens, so my first SLR was a Nikon. I bought the D50 and it is a fantastic camera, people cannot believe I am not a long standing professional photographer. For this reason I then bought a Nikon D80. I cannot believe that this camera is even better the images are superb.

Does this mean I think Canons are rubbish? Absolutely not! Having held the 350D and 400D in my hands I prefer the feel of the Nikon (larger more solid handgrips and control layout), but that is personal preference. To my mind, I grudgingly admit that the Canon seems to have better sensors, but Nikon seems to have better optics. This too can come down to the specific lenses or camera body you buy.

Either way you won't go wrong at the SLR end of the market, the shots if well taken will be quite presentable. Over 50% of the considerations come down to personal preference.

both the nikon d80 and canon 400d are tremendous dslr. what's ordinarily major is which digital camera feels solid in ur hand. both nikon and canon hav their professional's and con's. if u ask a nikon camp they could definately say the nikon is better effective, its vice-versa for the canon. Why nt head all the way down to ur nearest digital camera save and attempt out both cameras. u wouldnt flow incorrect with those 2 cameras. on the proper of the day its ur skills tat counts not the digital camera form.

I have a Canon so I am biased to that brand. Also, when I was looking into which camera to buy, Nikon's had the lowest image quality when compared to the Canon and the Olympus. Check out the website below. You can compare the same image taken by different cameras and it breaks down the good and the bad of each image. It is very helpful in helping you decide which camera to get.

You cant really compare both these cameras. Canons are known for their sensors and Nikon Optics. But of course its really down to "how much will I be willing to spend" Nikons probably will not be your friendliest person to your wallet with optics. Canon isnt either for good glass but Canon does have cheap glass for $100+ (not the best pictures in the world but you get what you pay for). Both are really good cameras. Nikon is aimed for the more prosumer than comsumer though so it might take a little time to get a hang of the D80.
