Meditation on the Scriptures is fine. Transcendental meditation and/or yoga is not.
You are participating in an eastern religious exercise in either case. At that point you are acting as a pagan. This is expressly forbidden by the Scriptures.
Here is just one example: "Are we trying to provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than he is, are we? Everything is permissible, but not everything is helpful. Everything is permissible, but not everything builds up." (I Corinthians 10:22-23)
And another:
"What harmony exists between Christ and Beliar, or what do a believer and an unbeliever have in common? What agreement can a temple of God make with idols? For we are the temple of the living God, just as God said: "I will live and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Therefore, "Get away from them and separate yourselves from them," declares the Lord, "and don't touch anything unclean. Then I will welcome you." (II Corinthians 6:15-17)

From what I understand, transindental meditation and yoga include emptying of the mind. This would be dangerous, as it open us to demonic influence. This is well illustrated at Matthew 12:43 - 45. Jesus showed that we must keep our minds occupied on wholesome Christian things. Astral traveling is not a Christian teaching, but originates with false religious practices. Anyone doing these things is tainting their worship and thereby making it unacceptable to God.

Uhhhhh....because it's Hinduism and not Christianity, for starters? Gee, I'm no rocket scientist, but - it seems pretty darned simple for me to figure it out.
Ya think???
BTW...."spiritual" - what in tarnation does that mean anyway??? There are very bad spirits out there. As Christians, we need to be involved only with the Holy Spirit...and be on guard against the others. It's called "discernment"

I cannot imagine. I admit that I do know a few screwed-up Christians, but most of them have no issue with yoga or meditation, in fact some of them practice one or the other.

No idea, especially since (thanks to the mystics and others) there is a long tradition of Christian meditation. And, at least in my part of California, yoga is more exercise of the body than the spirit, so no problems there.

I think ALL people should spend some time meditating and becoming aware of themselves.
