I use vaseline on all my dogs-i use it to put on the pads of their feet to keep them from getting irritated in the snow from the salt. Also to protect them from the chemicals in the melt off, and from getting too dry in the winter. I've never used neosporin, but I have used bag balm on their lacerations befor to keep it clean, and from getting infected-seems to always do the trick.

Neosporin is a topical antibiotic. I have use it (Neosporin) on my dogs for the rare minor cut or scrape. I believe it did help prevent infection. But NEVER use it in or near the eyes! I have not needed to use Vaseline...can't imagine what I'd use that for. It's just a blob of grease...my dogs are not outside dogs, so it's not needed for their feet.

Gvelliani,
It's O.K. to use neosporin on your dog to guard against infection if it has a cut or something. I'm sure it's O.K. to use vaseline but I'm not sure of it's healing properties or what you would be using it for. If you really love your dog try using the gel out of the Aloe Vera plant or if that is not available to you, you can buy Aloe Vera gel at Walmart of Where ever you shop. It kills infection and is all natural and you can also use vitamin E oil to help with the healing process and to reduce scarring. As far as the Aloe Vera, if you don't have a plant, you may consider getting one for you and your dog. They are wonderful healers. The Aloe Vera in the bottle usually has preservatives in it.

I have used neosporin for a short time on a scratch, but be careful, it could cause fungus growth if used too long. There are dog versions of these available at Vets that are better long term choices. You also don't want to put it somewhere the dog can lick at it, because they will.

Neosporin is okay, I have never used Vaseline on my dogs, but whatever you do don't use anything with Benzocaine in it (like Lanacane). I found this out the hard way and almost killed my poor poodle. Benzocaine is toxic to dogs. Just to be on the safe side, before you use ANYTHING on your dog or cat, call the vet first to make sure it's okay to use. But I know Neosporin is okay because my vet told me to use it on my dog.

Vaseline is suggested for dogs noses when they are dry so they will not crack and bleed. Neosporin though I think I would talk to someone incase they get sick from licking it.

sure have and it works great. Vaseline keeps flies and things out of the wound and neosporin helps keep away infection. Use them whenever you need to
