I was wondering what antibiotics to take before doing some dental work? I need the name of the antibiotic because I have to tell the doctor in the drugstore. (I don't live in a place where I need to get prescription for medicine and people just buy medicine in the drug stores.. so I'll need the name.) Thanks

I am not allergic to anything :::: as for WHICH country... well, let's just say its a "free country" lol. We need prescription only for "special" medicines like valium or something but we can buy tylenol, amoxilin, paracetamol and tons of other stuff over the counter. Those are just normal household medicines isn't it?

HUH? Never heard of such a thing as getting antibiotics at the drug store. You sure about that? How do they know what to give you if you don't see the doctor? What if you are allergic to the antibiotic? That's a VERY common side effect that can kill you. That's why there are so many antibiotics. Not everyone can take all of them. You really need to talk to your doctor about this first. Once you know what you can take, then in the future, you can just go to the store and get it. Call your doctor's office before you buy anything.

I'm assuming you live in Mexico as prescriptions are not needed to obtain antibiotics there. Any of the pharmacists can help you with your selection and the correct dosage, as can your dentist. Allergic reactions can happen so it is necessary that you have professional assistance even if you have taken antibiotics before.

If you need an antibiotic prior to dental work, call your physician and ask which one he or she would recommend.
Most people don't need an antibiotic prior to dental work (the most common exception being certain heart patients.)
Antibiotic resistance is a serious and growing health care risk, particularly in "westernized" countries where antibiotics are commonly used. Taking antibiotics "as a precaution" or "just to be safe/cover my bases" is one factor that contributes to this.
Do yourself a big favor, if you haven't been advised by medical professionals to take antibiotics before dental work, don't. If you have, ask the medical professional who recommended it to write the prescription - well, in your case name the drug they want you to use.

It wouldn't be wise for anyone to give you medical advice so specific. You could be allergic, and usually reactions to antibiotics are bad, trust me. Besides, if you need antibiotics before the procedure, any reputable dentist will provide you either with a prescription or the name of the suitable drug.

Any penicillin drug. Unless the dentist specifically told you need to take an antibiotic before all dental work then you don't need one. Also your dentist would be able to tell you what antibiotic he prefers you to use.

You should not take antibiotics for this purpose. It will do you no good and contribute to making the antibiotic less effective in the future

PRINCESS,
YOU OUGHT TO KNOW FROM YOUR PHYSICIAN WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS. ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO PENICILLIN?, DO NOT TAKE AMOXICILLIN--WHICH IS THE STANDARD. YOU WOULD TAKE CLINDAMYCIN.
BUT SINCE I'M NOT YOUR DENTIST, I CAN'T SUGGEST A PRESCIPTION.
WHY DO YOU SAY YOU NEED ANTIBIOTICS ANYWAY???
IF, AS YOU SAY,PEOPLE JUST GET MEDS W/O A PRESCRIPTION --- WHICH COUNTRY IS THAT???

Where do you livethat you don't need a prescription for antibiotics? This isn't good. Your dentist should prescribe one for you.
