I don't think that you should try and form a general consensus based on the responses you received here on yahoo answers. I mean, it's not very scientific. I think that you'd get a better understanding of those involved in this movement by polling some of the major organizations that focus their efforts on the environment.

It's certainly an important issue and I commend you for your dedication at such a young age. However, keep in mind that there are other pressing issues that are occurring in the world today. Who's to decide what's more important, and what needs our immediate attention? Right now it's not a huge concern for so many people because the world is a mess. There's an AIDS epidemic in Africa, a genocide occurring in Darfur, and complete instability in Iraq. It's understandably hard to focus on the earth's future, when so many out in the world are not sure about their own future and whether they'll have their job tomorrow or whether they'll be able to pay their mortgage next month. Look at the state of healthcare & poverty in the US? The richest country in the world!

The world is a mess.

It's great that you care about the environment! I applaud you! However, it is true that some people are too selfish, lazy, and ignorant to care. There have always been people who cared and people who didn't care, but now, especially with important environmental issues getting more and more severe, it's more important than ever that people from the don't care side move to the care side. That's why there are so many awareness programs out there to make people understand. Boys and guys are generally less sentimental for animals or plants and a little more stubborn (generally speaking). Oh well, keep doing whatever you're doing to make people care. Good luck saving the world

You get people of all ages and genders and walks of life who dont care about what bothers other people. A lot of people just feel that theres no point caring because theres not much they can do. Not just about ecological matters but all sorts of things. Some people may care and do more if they werent so bogged down by their own immediate problems - unemployment, poverty, kids and so on. I think that caring about the environment is a very mature reaction for a young person, dont give up caring just because others have. There are lots of groups, websites and local things to get involved in to keep your interest going.

Jake, when your generation are in charge of running this planet, I do hope you make a better job of it than we have.We have been and still are very selfish, we are loath to give up our cars and jetting off on foriegn holidays, we waste water, gas and electricity. We cut down trees to make things with that could quite easily be made from man-made materials. We live in a `throw away` world of convience and speed. When countries like the USA and China carry on as though there is no to-morrow, there is little encouragement for ordinary people to make sacrifices.Unless they and us, do so and soon, there really will be no to-morrow, which will be a shame and an absolute catastrophy. I think that ,sadly, the only way to make us look after what we now have is to pass laws to enforce us to so. Until then we can all try to do as much as we possibly can to do our part and to make others aware of the situation. Several years ago, I bought some land and planted several hundred native trees on it, so that it will grow into a forrest. In my minds` eye I see oak trees growing upwards to the sky, each of them two or three hundred years old, and I hope that people will walk through `my` forrest with their children and their dogs and that they will pick up the chestnuts from the ground and conkers for the children and enjoy it in the same way that I have enjoyed forrests planted by other people hundreds of years ago. It is my wish that the forrest will survive and not be starved of nutrients because we have allowed our eco-system to break down. If this generation continue to fail in this task, then your generation will be the last chance, do not fail.

As others have said to you there are other "good causes" to think about in this world. Do remember you cannot cure the ills of everything, so it is far better to concentrate on trying to help in one thing. What better than saving the enviroment? If we have no world to live in , nothing else will matter anyway! Your parents should be very proud of you.

Hello,

(ANS) I REALLY like your question its a good one. Well the way I see this topic is that men and woman, girls & boys (young people) do all tend to see these issues (Global warming due to pollution and mans affect on climate change) in different way's from each other.

We all have a different take on how we could or should deal with the problems. Some people like to face problems head on, you know take the bull by the horns and other people like to face problems more indirectly abit more like meditation or Tai Chi,etc.

No! in my opinion we men (males) are just as concerned as others about the global changes in our climate. I'm a 40+ white male and I can honestly tell you that I've been involved in recycling & being environmentaly aware (not wasting energy or resources, etc. Since the early 1970's (well over 30years) well before people started to get concerned about climate change.

**I think its NOT that people dont care and do care, its that some people are VERY very fearful about these environmental changes because they are outside of their personal control or thats how they feel about it.

**Also the scientists & climatologists are still arguing about how much of whats happening IS due to human beings and how much is due to a natural global cycle of change which might happen anway. Dont forget the earth has its own cycles which have brought long periods of climate change, such as ice ages or phases of drought in the past. I'm talking thousands of years in the past though.

**But certainly man has abused the environment for the last 150 years since the industrial revolution so some of the symptoms of global warming must be down to mans actions.

The world is being divided on the subject of conservation of the earth. Its reached major politics in such documents as the kyoto protocol. I don't know about men and women dividing over it. Maybe women are more interested in fixing the problem than men. For example, the first guy to answer this question. his answer was just plain procrastination and selfishness. But i'm sure there are plenty of men or boys out there who do care about whats happening.

Each generation seems to gobble up as much of our planets resources as possible without much thought for the future.
Money and greed are the driving force for many people.
Only now that global warming issues are being taken seriously do we have a chance to educate people and countries to care more. Even president Bush has finally opened his eyes.
We can all do our bit to care for our environment, no matter how small.

Good man. Many people think its some one else who should be doing something. That is true in a way - it needs leadership and we don't seem to have a person in authority who is sufficiently interested but all of us can do our little bit and who knows it might be enough. No one who is living now will be here if the planet overcooks itself and so they don't care

i think of there is merely a dash a divide of folk who care and persons who do not. i'm worried with recycling, in basic terms employing my motor vehicle while it incredibly is to far to stroll, paying for means powerful products and so on. My Husband on the different hand thinks its all ridiculous. His attitude is "in case you have have been given a motor vehicle then use it." "If the council decide to recycle it enable them to variety it out" " I refuse to bathe my rubbish in the past i placed it in the bin" I tell him he's ignorant. We had a controversy the different day approximately recycling and that i informed him that as quickly as we've gran babies and we never get to work out them as they stay on the moon through fact our planet is so filthy he might in basic terms have himself accountable. (particular i substitute into being sarcastic and exaggerating to get my evaluate the process) His reaction substitute into, properly in the event that they flew to the moon to stay there we would merely fly to the moon and have a super number of trip journeys with them. He has no sense of accountability with regard to the atmosphere. regrettably i think of there are various human beings like him the two women and adult adult males persons previous and youthful. If all of us start to make small variations now to assist the atmosphere it's going to make a huge distinction over the years.
