I tried implementing another 7 month old, but it was to no avail, my 7 year old kept feeling left out and even didnt sleep well, so i took the kitten back to the shelter..

Whats so strange is that last night my 7 year old out of no where began playing on my bed and running around meowing as if she was playing with my cat that recently passed..

Can my alive cat see or play with the spirit cat of the one that passed away? I know its a stupid question but do you think she can see her?

As far as your cat seeing the spirit of your deceased one, i don't know. I wouldn't doubt it, though, because animals are more in tune to those things than people are, so i'm sure he/she can at least still "feel" the other if not actually see him/her. But for the lonliness, just try spending as much time as you can with the cat you still have and give him/her loads of attention. Eventually, you could try again to bring another cat into your home, but it may take some time. In the meantime, though, just try some quality time for you and your cat, so he/she won't feel completely alone.

Of course she can see her. Cats are very receptive to spirits and things. I'm convinced that my old apartment had a ghost of a playful child wandering around. Mostly due to the fact that Nico would really only play with children and the way he plays with alive children would be exactly what he would start doing all by himself some days. Gives you something to think about, doesn't it? Then again I'm also positive that Nico is at least partly a reincarnation of my dog, Gunner (who was put to sleep about 6 months before Nico was born). He does so many of the things that Gunner used to do it's crazy, none of which I have EVER seen ANY cat do under ANY circumstances. Plus he's answered to Gunner on more than one occasion when I just get confused and start blurting out names. Anyway...that's a story for another day.

I agree with other posters though, if you are going to get another cat, I would get one that's the same age as your cat, or close to it. And if you can, bring your cat to the shelter with you. Ours has a room where you can play with the animals before you decide on which one to adopt, see which one your kitty likes best. But I would only try one or two options a day, overwhelming her with tons of choices all at once would just be too stressing and with the death of her friend, stress is the last thing she needs right now. (I only say to try this because our older cat, Nico, picked out our kitten, Chase and they were two peas in a pod right from day one, Nico even got mad when we tried to put Chase in her own carrier for the ride home from the shelter).

Best of luck to you and your family.

Your cat is probably grieving and missing his best friend. Pretending he was playing with him/her was just his way of dealing with her loneliness.

Try adopting an older cat - they usually go unadopted and would probably be better company for a mature cat. But if your cats grew up together, it may take a long, long time for her to accept another cat. Be patient.

When my oldest cat died @ 18, I couldn't get my other cat to look at him - I thought he should for some reason. He fought his way out of my arms and went into the other room. I find your cat's grief very touching.

I had three cats, at one time. Had to put one of the cats to sleep, because he had a liver disease. For weeks after that, both of the other cats seemed to "see" something in the living room, the kitchen, my bedroom.

Creepy, man!

I think, however, it may have been a combination of their being accustomed to the presence of the third cat. And, as for the hyperactivity, it could be attributed to perhaps a stomach cramp, which can cause running, jumping and otherwise "kitten-like" behavior.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

Anything is possible! But more than likely she just found her inner little kitty again. It is really hard on pets when they lose a friend. It took my cat about 3 months before she would play with other cats, and she didn't eat or sleep well. You might want to let her get through the grieving period and try getting another cat.
Good Luck!

Who Knows..

I do know that pets mourn other pets loss.. And for the amount of time your 2 were with each-other.
I have always thought that people/pets can come back (Tho everyone thinks im nuts..but..what ever).

To me? Why Not. Its that or your cat finealy got over your other cats death..
Either you want to pick.
Personaly just be happy that your 7 year old is back to how it was :)

Be Happy :D

Cats & Dogs both can see spirits. Over the years, I have had lots of animals and they all reacted to spirits. I can sense them too. Don't know if it is the dead cat - it could be a human playing with her.

Hmm, I don't know ANYTHING about this supernatural stuff but there might be a chance. Maybe not acutally SEE her but maybe just sense her presence if you cat really didn't move on. I've read about it before, someone or something dies and they don't want to leave something. So they don't leave. Or maybe it's because your cat is going crazy with grief. Umm, it might be possible. Call a priest or something. Maybe a physict.

Cats and dogs can see spirits, nobody has ever told them that they don't exist! Keep your feeling open to it too, maybe you will see a glimpse of your old cat out of the corner of your eye or hear him sometime. Welcome him! Its pretty cool....
