My daughter has been diagnosed with strep and has a craving for milk, chocolate milk. I seem to remember something about milk not being good for strep, but not sure why..

Milk and chocolate are not good when you have a throat condition going on. It just adds to the mucus (think about drinking milk and what happens in the back of your throat.) For strep, especially. It will make it much harder to treat the infection. It will coat it, but not in a good way. She'll just hurt her throat more and more by having to cough/clear her throat constantly if she drinks milk. Try some soy or rice milk. See if she'll drink that with a little bit of chocolate syrup in it. That way, you cut out 99% of the dairy that causes the mucus.

Milk isn't so bad to give her. At least she is getting some calories, and right now, keeping her hydrated is what she needs. Try giving her some yogurt. It will help clear things up faster. Stay away from foods that are scratchy, or really bulky going down. Try to stick with things like popcicles, ice cream, or soup. Things that are more liquid. They set better in little tummies, and go down much easier then other things. Jello is also good, as is pudding. I think sometimes, people think milk can cause more phlegm, but if she isn't having that much coughing or runny nose, then I wouldn't worry at all about giving her milk.

There is absolutely no reason why she can't have it. Sometimes strep throat makes the throat so sore, it is difficult to swallow. Some people use to think that milk helps produce phlegm (NOT TRUE). Fluids are good for her.

Milk is not a good way to go here.

An even better way, I find is aspirin and fresh grapefruit. Slice the grapefruit in halves, carve and eat the meat, and then squeeze the juices out of the rinds.

It feels like ice trickling down your thoat. It feels wonderful, and the vitamin C in grapefruit is excellent for restoring your daughter's immune system.

Actually having dairy makes strep worse and can cause reoccurring strep infections it's best to not eat dairy all together.

Milk isn't a good Idea because it causes phlegm build up. Whenever any of my kids get the sniffles or infections I take them off milk. but you should put her on asodopholus so she won't get a yeast infection from the penicillin

i think they want it because the creaminess soothes the throat, but milk causes phlegm, which is why i would guess she shouldnt have it.
most singers wont drink milk before a concert or show because it causes a lot of mucus buildup in your throat.

hth!

If you are taking antibiotics they only prevent the spread of the bacteria (Streptococcus pyogenes) to the rest of your body where they can cause a more serious infection. They do not reduce the duration of your symptoms and you can eat/drink whatever you like (except alcohol).
