I heard constantine messed up the calendar or something so I was wandering exactly how many years ago Jesus died on the cross. Jesus said he would come back on the third day and a thousand years in heaven is as on day on earth. Are we entering the third day yet?

Josephus, a Jewish historian, mentioned Jesus in his writings toward the end of the first century C.E., roughly 60 years after Jesus' death.
As a non-Christian, Josephus would have no reason to accept the historical reality of Jesus unless there was some sound basis for it.
In one of his works, Josephus discusses disturbances that were caused by the Jews during the time Pontius Pilate was governor of the region of Judea (26-36 C.E,) The disturbance centered around a man named Jesuss and his followers, Josephus identifies Jesus as "a wise man....a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of men who received the truth with pleasure," and he notes that Jesus was later condemned by Pilate to crucifixion. While this mention of Jesu does not suggest that Josephus himself accepted Jesus or the claim made about Jesus by his followers, it does seem clear that Josephus recognized Jesus to be a historical person who had a profound impact on the people he encountered.

Read also about Tacitus, a Roman historian.....Pliny the Younger another Roman source and Suetonius a Roman historian and lawyer.
All these writers prove the historical existence of Jesus......rather than biblical sources.

Because the Gregorian calendar that we use was not invented at the time, it is difficult to place events so that they match our calendar. (It was not Constantine, but Pope Gregory about 1000 years ago who standardized our current calendar). The method used then was that then something happened in the "4th year of king Joe". Of course, if you are do not know what year King Joe started to rule in....

Using the information in the Bible, it appears that death of Jesus happened in either 27 or 29 AD. Either year will fit the list of rulers given in the Bible. The Bible tells us that he was 33 years old at the time of his death. The question is over the year of his birth. One of the three rulers listed at the time of his birth was in office in 6 AD, left for a year and returned in 4AD. So it is uncertain which of the two years was the birth year for Jesus. So, it is uncertain which of the two years he Jesus and resurrected.

So two thousand years from the time of his died would be between 2027 and 2029 AD.
