I was inspired to write a play, but I don't know what to make it about. I don't want it too romantic or too violent. Something that I can add onto and make a sequel. Something with humor. Plenty of characters. I was hoping someone could give me a broad idea. Something like "The search for the holy grail". But not that. Something like "The main characters are going on a mission at school to spy on the bully." Any help appreciated!

When I write works or plays the ideas generally evolve out of some historical event. Flip through history meanwhile listen to classical music. It works, trust me. When I wrote a short story on a World War II battle I listened to the band of brothers sountrack and the music for medal of honor. I also read some stories from soldiers there in the battle. And I also sat outside on a wintry day to get a feel for the Battle of the Bulge and what it was like. If you want a work to have feeling to it then you need to generate that feeling in yourself.

I am a writer and I write mostly short stories and poems, though I've written a couple of plays. I agree with the first answer, history is always good. The most important thing, though, is to have a main character that you really like and feel comfortable writing. Nothing can kill a play faster than a cheesy main character. Once you have a character write a detailed biography for them, everything they've done, their favorite breakfast cerel, whatever. Usually a story will spring from that.

This is an idea I had but never got around to, there are two villages and they have never gotten along and suddenly things start to happen. people are mysteriously dissapearing and crops are being destroyed, both villages thinks its the other village doing this, but in reality its a raven which is considered an omen. just a thought.
