In charge of? Nothing, really, 'cept their own people and equipment.

As for their RESPONSIBILITIES, the short version is:

Army -- Land warfare
Navy -- Domination of the seas
Air Force -- Domination of the skies
Marines -- Naval assault

Marines:

Sea based land attack initially. However they are the only branch of the services which can be used by the President to launch attacks without Congressional approval for a period of 30 days. Marines now combine land, sea and air attacks.

Army is the US general forces. Requires Congressional approval to deploy other than special forces.

Navy is sea based operations and deploys air operations from Aircraft carriers, which includes Marine Air units.

Air Force is the air component of the US military. In charge of most land based attacks (army has helicopters, marines have helicopters and airplanes such as the A-10 Thunderbolt II and Harrier). Air Force provides high level bombing, low level boming and aerial reconnasiance.
