I would stay on the west side either in the Kaanapali Resort, area where the Hyatt, Maui Marriot, Sheridan, Westin, etc, are located, as they are on the beach, or if you want an ocean front condo, Papakea Resort is very nice. They are listed under Resort QUEST vacations, also Paki Maui, as these two propertys are ocean front. The Kaanapali resort area is touristy, but the beaches are excellent and relatively safe, with small kind surf. If you decide on the west side, you will be close to Kapalua, and the Plantation golf course if you like golf.Kaanapali is centrally located, as Lahaina is close by, whalers village is in Kaanapali for shopping and there are many resturant's in this area, especially Sansei, in Kapalua. If you want peace and quiet, go to Hana, and if you do not mind paying a lot of money, stay at the Hana Hotel, for a couple of nights. I have stayed there and it is my most favorite place on Maui. Aloha..........

The Best Resort in Maui is the Wailea Marriott Resort, but the general location for a romantic vacation is the Kapalua Villas - MAUI ISLAND - 500 Office Road, Maui Island, HI 96761...ENJOY!

I really like the Ka'anpali area just north of Lahaina. The beaches are great and you have a great view of the West Maui Mountains. There are too many nice places to stay to list. I have stayed at the Aston Resort and The Royal Lahaina Resort. Both are nice.
