If you really love Olive Garden then you probably live in an area that does not have much of a 1st or 2nd generation Italian population, with lots of family run Italian restaurants.
Fortunately we do.
On vacation we twice took advantage of promotions to try Olive Garden. What an overpriced disappointment!!!!!!!!!!!
I know the company that owns the chain has its
little Tuscany campus (and it is good to reward deserving employees trips there) but I've also read criticisms of its inventing inauthentic recipes, recipes that however fit into unsophisticated North Americans fantasies. Our two experiences, and Meredith P's Answer reinforce that opinion.
(It is notable that just as it is almost impossible to find a Red Lobster anymore in New England or Quebec or the Canadian maritimes where the people know what lobster cuisine should be, just as much you won't find Olive Gardens
in metropolitan areas - New York, Boston, Philly, Montreal, etc., etc. - with a large Italo population and heritage).

I used to work there, and must admit that I was impressed to learn that most of their dishes come from their culinary institue in Tuscany, and they have their own vinevard that make wine especially for the Olive Garden. Although, with it being a corporate restaurant, the chefs are really held back with what they can create. Try your locally owned italian restaurant and I'm sure you will enjoy that too!

My husband used to work at Olive Garden while he was in his first year of college! It's one of his favorite restaurants, and mine too! He gets either the chicken vino bianco or the chicken marsala, and I get the chicken con broccoli. Yum!!!
