My six year old daughter has been taking off her snow pants on the bus before getting to school... she has "outdoor recess" for 25 minutes before school starts. (Our high temp today was 11 degrees F.) One of her friends tattled on her. How do I bust her on this without crushing a budding (if not perfect) friendship?

Let her get on the bus.. then meet her at school and ask her how those pants come off?? Then tell her teacher about this as well and ask her to make sure your daughter wears them. I am sure that the teacher will agree that she should be wearing them and ask your daughter to make sure she keeps them on. Also ask the bus driver to ask her to stay dressed on the bus. Hope this works for you. Good luck.

I had a similar problem to this with boots vs. sneakers. I told her that moms just know these things and that there's no use lying because mom's employ secret spies that will never be caught. I know it's silly but she's six and they'll buy into pretty much anything. Especially when she seems to get busted ALL the time! It would help to try and curtail discussion of HOW you discovered this information and lean more toward why it's not a good thing to do.

I agree with those who suggest that you head to the school shortly after the bus leaves. If she demands to know how you knew or why you're there, don't explain. The psychic powers of motherhood are much more creepy and effective to a child if they don't know how you do it!

Find out why she's taking the snow pants off. If she's doing it because she thinks they're ugly, perhaps the problem can be solved by buying her a pair she approves of.

After she gets on the bus and gets to school you need to go up there!! You don't need a reason to be at the school, you're her Mom! She probably won't ask why you were there anyway and if she does ask tell her you were gonna talk to her teacher...and you are, right, I mean about making sure she keeps on her snow pants!!!

To make it easier on everyone, while everything is on sale now why not buy her a new pair? It is cold, and maybe she truly hates them, or they fit "funny" or they are getting smaller. A 6 year old doesn't want to be cold so there is probably a reason right? [and an extra pair is always a good idea anyways...]
