I have XP Professional and wish to update to Service Pack2 Without using the Windows Genuive Advantage tool and automatic updates. How can I get the updates without actually activating Windows?

download sp2 at the link below, just disregard what it says about installing on multiple computers.

you need a legit copy of windows to download new and improved features and crap, but microsoft did a socially conscious thing by allowing even illegitimate copies to download the *critical* security patches via automatic update. currently AU is the only way to download the patches.

If you don't have a genuine version of windows you can not get your updates. Well I have found a site that claims to be able to get around that. It involves a registry change so make a restore point before you attempt this change. The site you need to visit is at ....

You can no longer install updates without the GAT installed, and it cannot be removed. Sad, but true.

there are ways.. there are always ways... ways that if i tell you then i'll be in violation of the Yahoo Terms.

might i suggest after you get SP2 you use Autopatcher to get all your updates.
