Many people that have had to leave their home, or lost a mate, or are in extremely poor health etc. often are depressed. Are there people that go to help them work thru these difficulties in their life? For many years I worked as a nurse with the elderly. They often feel discarded. They ARE NOT WORTHLESS just because they can no longer perform. Too often people make them feel that way. If I knew how/had the training I'd want to be their advocate so they would know someone does care. My parents are unable to live on their own now due to alzheimers disease and heart problems and diabetes. It is so sad to see this happening. What will things be like when we, the younger generation get there?

Often the best counselor is a friend.

Our local Elks club does a great service for the elderly, frequently having dinners or breakfasts that give the retired a nice place to meet, talk, and socialize.

For the homebound, chat and discussion forums can be helpful. Even a regular phone call can make a huge difference.

When we get to the stage that your parents are in, it will be tough. No question about it.

Strengthen your friendships and your family bonds now.
