"Thy will be done". I've seen people refer to this may times - what happens is ALWAYS GOD'S WILL. But if prayer can periodically change his mind, it might be a good thing. If not, why pray?

You can pray to be thankful, to ask for things, to hear God. Praying is fulfilling the living relationship with God. If your best friend stopped calling you on the phone or stopped hanging out with you … would your friendship suffer??? I think so!!! So too with God ... we've gotta pick up and call him.

Here’s a cute story I picked up and might get you thinking about prayers:
------------------ >>>> STORY: THE PASTOR'S CAT <<<<< ------------------------
Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc.

The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten.

That's what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke.

The tree went "boing!" and the kitten instantly sailed through the air - out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they'd seen a little kitten.
No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten So he prayed, "Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping," and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, "Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?"

She replied, "You won't believe this," and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing. Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, "Well, if God gives you a cat, I'll let you keep it."

She told the pastor, "I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won't believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her."

Never underestimate the Power of God and His unique sense of humor!

A prayer cannot change Gods will if it is not of a righeous nature. But not matter what God does when He answers prayers, it is only His will that is done. Praise the Lord!

Proverbs 15:29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous

Pslams 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

There are many instances in the Bible where someone prayed and God changed his mind. But every thing that happens is NOT necessarily God's will. Some people do their own will, not God's.

It really depends on what Gods will is at any given time,if the earth deserves His justice for example then prayer can lessen the impact and even cause God to relent.

NO, but it can show faith in repentance and repentance and sorrow and fasting on rugs like Ninevah did, did change gods will to repent of the evil which he "designed" to do to that city.
Abraham likewise debated with God until ONLY Lott was saved from the destruction of Sodom. well, his daughters were saved because the were obedietn totheir father and the will of the angels. but the eldest daughter proved she was part of something bigger and more wicked.

God is always merciful and forgiving, until it is proven that mankind willnot or cannot repent.

Yes prayer can change Gods mind, but it will never cause Him to go against the bible.

Apparently God's plan is already set out, so technically prayer won't change his plan. But the religious crazies will tell you otherwise... it's a tricky one. But basically, prayer is useless.
