If you live near or in Chicago as I do, you are best to go down state. It is a 3-4 hour drive, but you will find both breeders with land for them to roam and less than half the price. In either event, here is a list of some breeders in illinois:

Now, I am a multiple great dane owner/lover. My best dane ever came from a woman downstate named Carolyn Cross. Her number is: 618-242-1358. I believe I only paid about a grand for him. He is beyond amazing. Good luck to you. You are choosing a son/daughter (in my opinion) for the next ten years or so.

Check with the Great Dane Club in the state/area they can put you in touch with responsible breeders.
Go to the GDCA (Great Dane Club of America) site they have a listing of all the Great Dane Clubs, rescues and some breeders.

akc.org click on breeder referral and start there,,, you will be able to get contacts for reputable breeders in your area......also try great dane club of america search..... will be very very helpful
