If he is using pullups or diapers to poop, count out the remainder of them with him pullups say "After 7 more pullups (diapers) you get to use the toilet. Make sure he is in clothing that he can get on and off without any help including "Big boy" underwear that he picks out. When you feel he is about to have a bowel movement, say to him “It seems like you need to use the bathroom.” Say nothing more than that. If he soils himself, hold him responsible for the cleanup. Say to him “It looks like you need to change.” Give it no more attention. I know it will be a little hard for you but don’t give in. He can shake the poop into the toilet, rinse them out, put them in a bag and into the laundry, clean his body (take a bath if necessary), and put on clean clothing. He will soon learn that it is much easier to use the toilet. Hope this helps!

I agree with the first post. With my child I had him pick out a book to look at while sitting on the potty. It helped to take his mind off of the fact that he was actually sitting there to poo. After a couple of weeks he was in there on his own WITHOUT a book. Good luck.
