From what I understand it's a slang term for someone who is particularly red headed, fair skinned, and has freckles. I don't think it's gross, but it may bother some people, especially after the episode on South Park, where "ginger kids" were outcast because of their skin and hair.

Reminds me of Southpark... Anyway, In the UK, ginger is a non derrogatory term for a redhead, however, I've noticed that in America, it's kind off offensive, Thanks to that particular southpark episode in which they called redhead 'Gingers' and ridiculized them.

It just means redhead, doesn't it? It's something Cartman on South Park went off about.

absabloodylutely.. however depends if it's pronounced
'jinjer' which is ok, describes a strawberry/red haired person
or 'ginga' ie: both 'Gs' sound like government = not so good, especially rife in Scotland!
just tell them you're a ginga ninja and they better watch oot!
