What is the music in the Chinese New Year Lion Dance's purpose? Does it ward off evil? Little info helps?

I'm working on a class report. However, the internet does not supply me with all the information that is needed. People who are lion dancers or are the drummers, are a good help because they have more experience.

Good information are why the music is loud, what specific types of instruments are used, the movement of the dummers, and ect.

It is an ancient tradition to perform the Chinese Lion Dance during the Chinese New Year to scare off any evil spirits and attract good luck.
