If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
Oh, by the way the site that helped me is:

NATURAL ACNE PROTOCOL
1/ Never, ever touch your face.
2/ Use 3 facecloths to wash your face, one to soap on, one to soap off with very hot water, one to rinse off with ice cold water, in that order, once a day.
3/ If you are under 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A once a day with a full meal
4/ If you are over 18 take 5,000 IU of vitamin A twice a day with a full meal.
Do not get pregnant while taking vitamin A. Do not take any more, like Accutane, it will stop you growing.
5/ Never, ever. pick, squeeze or pop your spot. Read number 1 again.
6/ Do this for 90 days.
7/ Invest in a brand new pillow and 2 new or more pillow cases to double bag' your pillow. HOT wash every couple of days.

A bit of advice given to me as a teenager, a bit of science as I am studying allergic reactions and vitamin A is a part of that. A bit of research: I sat in a lecture at the back and watched the acne prone pick at their faces, those with the worse acne touched their faces 32 times in an hour, the clearest complexions didn't touch their faces even once. I have circumstantial evidence that acne is the result of dermatophyte transfer from hands to face...where it does not get washed off and is well fed by hormones, sweat a
nd oil...just a hypothesis... But it would explain why vitamin A is so effective as vitamin causes skin to remove dermatophytes.
The secret is never to touch the spots

One that had worked wonders for me when I was younger was Differin Gel. This was way before it was on commercials. I remember it would burn the crap out of my skin and turn it red and it also itched liked HELL. But after that process my skin was as smooth as a baby's butt. I was amazed how fast the improvements worked. So if you are willing to look pretty jacked up for a couple days go for it. The results will payoff.

No matter what anyone tells me I will always stick by Proactiv. For around $20.00 a month clear skin is all yours. It really is amazing. I was broken out horribly... especially on my forehead. I ordered Proactiv and by the next day I could tell that there was a mild difference. A few weeks down the road I was all clear.
Love it, love it, love it.

Remember that what works for one person may not necessarily work for the other person, so I suggest that you look in the cosmetic section what they have for acnes and try some thing read the instructions while you are searching, good luck.

"Cetaphil" found at Wal-mart is the best clenser and was recommended by my dermotologist. OTC drugs are pretty much the same for simple acne. I saw a dermotologist and the drugs and steroid based creames, plus acne surgery is way more effective than anything you can get at store.

Whatever product you decide to use make sure you only use that product on your face. If you use clean and clear cleanser and then Noxzema moisturizer or zit stuff it is basically chemical warfare on your face. So make sure you don't mix brands.
