Hmm, how about this. If someone came over from China and killed someone and then said. Oh, sorry, I didn't know it was wrong. Would they still be punished? Should they still be punished even if they didn't think what they did was wrong? Same thing with God. Ignorance of the law doesn't make people exempt from it. Especially Gods law. That's why God commands us to go out into the world and preach the gospel. So, they won't be ignorant of the law any longer. =) That's why the Bible says to preach the gospel to e1 that you can. Because He loves them as much as He loves you. Right after you tell them that you can turn it into a conversation about how to talk to people about Christ. =)

I hope that helps. You can put your own spin on it for younger children. but remind them of Human laws and rights and then show them that God is a good judge. He doesn't want anyone to perish, but all to come to Him. However they cannot do that, unless they know His word. Then you are not exactly saying ppl will burn in hell. Even though we know that to be the outcome. We can say it in a much less fanatic way. Remember, Jesus didn't tell people. Follow me or you will go to hell. He started in the wordly realm and then brought it to the spiritual by talking about the 10 commandments. just like the woman at the well and the rich prince.

From what I have read, I think they would go to hell because they have not accepted Jesus as Lord- not because they haven't been baptized. Here are some verses.

Romans 2:12-16

12All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. 13For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. 14(Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, 15since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) 16This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

Isiah 40:5

5 And the glory of the LORD will be revealed,
and all mankind together will see it.
For the mouth of the LORD has spoken."

People don't go to hell because they are not baptised. They go to hell because they are not born again by God's Spirit. Baptism is an outward sign that they already belong to God, a symbol of the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus.

In Romans chapter 1 verse 18 - 20
it says

But God shows His anger from Heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts. From the time the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities - His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God.

I'm putting the baptism part of your question aside, because not knowing about the gospel message is a matter of salvation itself, not baptism. But perhaps your class is having a difficult time with this because they come from an Arminian or Pelagian background, and they will always have problems with trying to answer this kind of a question. If you believe that you have the ability to look to God for salvation, then God's authority to do as he pleases will always be compromised.

This question has come up in my bible study and I always understood that you cant be held accountable for something you don't know about. But if you know that god is out there and you have a bible and aren't picking it up then i guess it's your fault. Im not sure about china and there religion. As far as baptism I thought you had to be baptisized to enter the kingdom of heaven...but if they've never had the knowledge or the choice wouldn't be a very just god for sending them all to hell.

This is what is written on Romans 2:12-15, "For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law; (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

So there is no excuse. Baptism has nothing to do with going to hell. The book of Romans deals on your question. It speaks of the righteousness of man by faith to God.

Even if they have not heard about Jesus Christ, their conscience bears witness of God to them. Nature and the world around them declares God (it does not prove that there is God, it declares that there is God).

The Bible says that it is faith that saves us, not baptism. The thief on the cross was not baptized and Jesus promised to see him in paradise that same day.

All people are accountable to God whether they have “heard about Him” or not. The Bible tells us that God has clearly revealed Himself in nature (Romans 1:20) and in the hearts of people (Ecclesiastes 3:11). The problem is that the human race is sinful; we all reject this knowledge of God and rebel against Him (Romans 1:21-23). Apart from God's grace, God would give us over to the sinful desires of our hearts, allowing us to discover how useless and miserable life is apart from Him. This He does for those who reject Him (Romans 1:24-32).
In reality, it is not that some people have not heard about God. Rather, the problem is that they have rejected what they have heard and what is readily seen in nature. Deuteronomy 4:29 proclaims, “But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you look for him with all your heart and with all your soul.” This verse teaches an important principle: everyone who truly seeks after God will find Him. If a person truly desires to know God, God will make Himself known.
The problem is, “there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God” (Romans 3:11). People reject the knowledge of God that is present in nature and in their own heart, and instead decide to worship a “god” of their own creation. It is foolish to debate the fairness of God sending someone to hell who never had the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Christ. People are responsible to God for what God has already revealed to them. The Bible says that people reject this knowledge, and therefore God is just in condemning them to hell.
Instead of debating the fate of those who have never heard, we, as Christians, should be doing our best to make sure that they hear. We are called to spread the Gospel throughout the nations (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). The fact that we know people reject the knowledge of God revealed in nature must motivate us to proclaim the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ. Only through accepting the Gospel of God’s grace through the Lord Jesus Christ can people be saved from their sins and rescued from an eternity apart from God in hell.
If we assume that those who never hear the Gospel are granted mercy from God, we will run into a terrible problem. If people who never hear the Gospel are saved…we should make sure that no one ever hears the Gospel. The worst thing we could do would be share the Gospel with a person and have him or her reject it. If that were to happen, he or she would be condemned. People who do not hear the Gospel must be condemned, or else there is no motive for evangelism. Why run the risk of people possibly rejecting the Gospel and condemning themselves – when they were previously saved because they had never heard the Gospel?

Almost everyone in the world has 'heard' of Jesus, but you see, it's a funny thing, not everyone shares your religious views. There is no more proof of Christianity than there is of other organized religions, actually much less because it disproves itself through biblical texts many times. So effectively, you might as well be worshiping an idol who throws people in hell for not only choosing the wrong religion, but never hearing of the right one.

God is fair and His judgment will be a JUST verdict. Take the American Indians for example [before Columbus], since they never heard of Jesus, God will judge them on a different scale than you or I, since we HAVE heard about Jesus. The one who rejects Jesus will be condemned, but the one who accepts Him and believes He was raised from the dead will be saved. I think that it is taught throughout the Bible that all people have received a conscience at birth from Adam and Eve having eaten of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and how one of these people behave in accordance with their revealed conscience will determine their fate. I may be wrong on this, but I think that this is taught in the Old Testament.

I believe that every person will have the opportunity to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. Then they will also have the opportunity to either accept or reject the message. If they are not given the opportunity during their mortal life, they will have the oppotunity in the Spirit World after they die.

I believe that God is a loving God, He is our Father. He would never keep someone from Heaven, because, they did not have the opportunity to accept Christ, that is just not what a loving Father would do.
