The geese were there before your niece bought/began to live in the house! They have very few places to go as it is!
Start with making a decision... do you want to help solve the problem by making all involved happy? if so, then move if the geese are that much of a problem. Or you can befriend them and go to a bakery and buy their day old bread (dirt cheep) and begin to feed them and they will stay at that pond! This bread drop is best done at night because they normally don't feed after dark and will remain in a place where they know that there's food.
I feed ducks and geese everyday and I think I've earned my stripes on this topic!

Oh My. I'm afraid she'll have the geese forever unless she moves. They come back to the place they were born until the day they die. They sure leave a huge mess! I know cause we had a pond on our property and suffered through it. Besides the mess they'll chase you so make sure you run fast.. They Hurt! DO NOT EVER FEED THEM!!!!!!!!!

Maybe she can find a lawn ornament that would scare them. Try one of those windmill type moving ones.
