o my.. i remember those days. i had them four years, so i can relate very well. sometimes the pain was so bad i threw up. but anyhow..if you want to relieve mouth tention and its hurting your jaw..then i suggest Alieve that worked best for me. and as for the rubbing and tearing of the cheek walls use wax, the orthadontist should give you some or ask someone who has braces if they have any that hasn't been used. oragel helps numb the pain and sometimes i would use chewing gum(i know your not supposed to) when i had no wax to cover a spot that was tearing at my gums. i hope some of this helps!

Buy Aloe Vera gel at a health food store. Take a mouth full and hold it in your mouth for 5 minutes. It tastes like donkey fizoo but it will cure what ails you. You can either swallow it after 5 minutes, it's good for the inside of your body also, or spit it out. Braces usually stop hurting when they move your teeth. When you first get them tightened, they hurt like hades. Good Luck with them, feel better fast. Just remember when its over, you're going to be gorgeous.

Maybe try Ibuprofen-it contains an ingredient that helps reduce any (if there is any) swelling. Plus help with the pain. Otherwise, for topical ways, anbesol or oragel. When I had braces, when the "adjustments" were done, I would eat soft foods for dinner-mashed potatoes, scrambled eggs, p&j sandwhich, etc. It will be worth it all when they come off! Take care.

I wore braces for 4 years and Ambesol and I became really close. I never left home without it. It kinda feels like Novocain and you can get it at any grocery store or CVS, Rite Aid, Walgreens...

recently? as in within the last 72 hours? In which case, a couple tylenol and a hot compress on the area...rinse with a strong salt water solution. If its been more than that, you probably need antibiotics... Thats my best advice... Just had to go through that myself a couple weeks ago.

break your arm or cut yourself, that should make you forget about that pain for a while. or you can splash salt water.
