From a studied viewpoint, as well as Buddhist, I think Muhammad was a leader, whether inspired or not, who gave his people some decent rules that took them out of a bad spot at the time. He was a military leader and a politician, intelligent and very successful in his goals. I respect Islam as far as people use it to gain wisdom and altruism.

The belief in deities is not in the Buddhist structure, although some follow Buddhism as more of a philosophy, while removing the religious concepts. Buddhism supports all religions as a way to further oneself as an individual, unfortunately too many times they are used as a source of hate, and for the promotion of violence.
