DON'T!!! Stop now. It is too new, and unless you are a serious computer programmer, don't bother. I would suggest going to dell.com, and redeeming your upgrade, so they ship it to you, then wait. Read some reviews, let them fix all the holes, and in 6 months or a year, then upgrade it.

My sources tell me not to download that free upgrade because Windows Vista is a new operating system which means there's going to be a lot of bugs to be fixed and there might be some conflicts with the software that's on your computer which to me sounds like a big headache. I say don't use Windows Vista until Microsoft releases an upgraded version.

Oh man, please don't do that. I know the new Vista is all exciting and everything, but please, just don't do it.
I am an IT student in college studying for my e-commerce degree. Last semester I took a specialty operating system. We covered Windows 2000, ME, XP as well as the IBM i-series and much more. We also covered the release of Vista. Vista is based on XP and other than a little better of a filing system and a few bells a whistles, its really the same thing.
Whenever Msoft releases a new operating system, there is always bigtime problems the first year, just look at XP. My advice is to wait for at least a year before you put your computer and software at risk.

Probably the best way to find out is to call Dell or visit their support website for information. I would try the following ...
Go to support.dell.com
Click on the make of your computer
Enter the service tag into the box and click "Go"
See if that brings up any links along the lines of "where can I get my Vista"
I'm just guessing, but that's the first thing I'd try.
