I agree that you should speak with your father about the problem.
It may be able to be resolved, maybe not. Which ever it is you, unfortunately, will have to live with it.
You could always have your mail sent to a friends.
On the other hand, you may want to check with the post office about the legalities. My understanding is all that federal law that is being quoted applies until it reaches the address. The post office recognizes and delivers mail to an address, not a name.
I have talked with the Post Office in my area, I can open anything that comes addressed to my house no matter who's name is on the envelope, family member, neighbor, or stranger.
But, check it out.
Maybe you could arrange to have your dad receive your mail and let him open it,

She has no rights to open your mail, wither your paying bills or not.
She not your mother or dad,
I bet your dad pays most of the bill if not all and hes not opening your mail.
If I was you I'd get a p.o box at the post office, and I bet that would piss her off and theirs not a thing she can do about it.
Lucky for you your not going to 16 for ever babe.
Good luck.

I think it's against the law for anyone to open your mail other than you.. but at 16 I'm not a hundred percent sure.. however, maybe you could discuss it with your dad, and let him know you were uncomfortable with that.. so he can talk to her about it.. I don't think that was right. Good Luck :)

by using fact which you're a minor, she could be allowed to open the mail. although, is she your criminal mom or father? If no longer, then possibly in basic terms your dad is permitted. as quickly as you're an grownup, that is not suitable in case you pay expenses there or no longer, beginning somebody else's mail is a federal offense. Her excuse is lame and it sort of sounds like she's in basic terms attempting to pry into your affairs... large thank you to forge a connection there, evil stepmom! (and you'll be able to repeat that!)

If you do not want her opening it she cannot. Opening mail not addresed in her name is a felony. It doesn't matter where the mail goes to, if your name isn't on it you cannot legally open it. You could call the police and file a claim against her but she will be in trouble so I'd recommend talking to your dad first.

It may be their house but, she should still show you some respect and not open your mail! She is being spiteful and nosy at the same time! Talk to your dad about this and let him know how you really feel about her.

I'm not sure if it's legal or not, but she should respect your privacy. But at the same time, it's true, you are only 16 and you must respect the decisions that your dad and step mother make. If it bothers you so much talk to your dad about it. Maybe he can tell her to lay off of your stuff a little more.

Wow well my dear you always get your own mail box from FedEx but if you are 16yrs old she still have to give you that respect because she is invading your privacy. You are 16yrs old and if you are working a little part time job just get yourself a mail box, or if your real mother have one just forward your mails to her house that's all. But truly stepmothers can be a real pain in the a@#.

Im not sure what your rights are considering youre a minor still. Call the Post Office in your town, and ask to speak the the PostMaster. Ask that person what your rights are as a 16 year old...
Either way, its unethical, what she's doing. Speak to your dad!
