Right click on MY COMPUTER on desktop.. click properties --> Hardware---> Device manager---> Double click on Sound, video and game controllers---> Right click on your sound device and click enable if it has been disabled.. If the drivers (software which makes the sound card work) are missing, you may need to re-install the drivers.. Ask any person elder to you to solve this problem.. 14 yrs it's difficult to understand..

If you're running XP, and this just happened, the best thing is to use 'restore'.... Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Restore.

BEFORE you do that, try plugging in a headset and test to see if you can hear sound through the headsets. If you can, then it's not your card but the speakers. If you can't, it could be the driver. I could give you other ways - but.... if it just happend - RESTORE - Restore will not work right if it happened a while back.
