Some Christians think that doing yoga is sinful in and of itself. I don't think so though. If you can do the exercises without doing the religion that goes with it feel free. Remember, according to Paul we have freedom of conscience in all things not commanded or forbidden.

Yoga is considered to be part of the New Age movement, which utilizes eastern philosophies. A Christian would do well to stay away from it. On the outside, Yoga seems harmless, but within it is based on subtle deceptions. Most New Age teachings are based upon the idea that "you are god" and that you need to reach inside yourself to find the "god" within you - which originates in the lie that Satan told Eve in the Garden of Eden - "You will be as gods."

By practicing yoga, you are participating in an eastern mystical religious practice.
Even their own literature agrees with this. In the attached link, they even talk about a serpent, and higher consciousness. These are demonic manifestations, and you would be inviting them in your life.
Why would a Christian even consider this? There are those who say that you can separate the exercise component from the mystical, but that is another lie of the enemy.
Flee from this, before you become a victim of the lie. If Satan cannot have your soul, he will have your walk if you let him. And eastern meditation is one sure fire way to do that.
Of course, I would expect to get heat from others about this, since they like it. But this agrees with Paul's admonition to Timothy: "For the time will come when people will not put up with healthy doctrine but with itching ears will surround themselves with teachers who cater to their own needs. They will refuse to listen to the truth and will turn to myths." (II Timothy 4:3-4)

Only some of the more extreme Christians will tell you it is not ok to do yoga. Yoga as most people practice it is just a form exercise and /or meditation. It certainly is not in any way harmful to yourself or others. There is nothing wrong with it.

Yoga in any form is fine. Mantras aren't incantations or anything of the sort, they are a way to focus your mind on the Divine. Hail Marys are a type of mantra, for example. You will not take away from your faith by doing yoga, the spiritual kind at least, and you certainly won't doing the stretching kind either. What can a little stretching and a few poses do to your faith?

I don't understand why people think yoga and christianity don't go together? I'm thinking of starting yoga up again myself. I don't meditate as much as pray, it gives the same physical benefit, so I don't really see a problem. Of course, I don't do the little budda thingys, but the exercise itself is very beneficial.

I think yoga is of the devil. Who else would try to make you put your arms and legs into all those unnatural stretches?
Seriously, you can get all kinds of exercise tapes that are just exercise tapes. I've seen a lot of them, and there's nothing religious about them. You stretch, you balance, you "pose", you sweat, and if you're like me you fall on your rump a lot.

Are you a Christian? While I think you can compartmentalize the poses and the stretching exercises from the spiritual side of yoga (which is Hindu) - I would be very careful. If your yoga teacher starts in with mantras and sun-salutations....RUN...don't walk...out the door!

Most don't understand yoga...so you won't get good answers.
By your question, you are looking for hatha or some varient - fitness and stretches...there is no problem.
It is like taking Tai Chi or some other art normally associated with health and fitness.
