Pour gin in a shaker full of ice. Rub the cork from a bottle of dry vermouth on the rim of a martini glass. Pour the chilled gin into the glass. Cheers.

I could give you martini recipies for an hour, but here are a few really good ones. (And when I say 'count' I'm basing it on it taking 3 'counts' to fill a shot glass, also called a 'jigger')

Classic Martini

(You need fresh CRACKED ice, a cocktail shaker and a strainer for all of these)

10 counts vodka or gin
1 splash of dry vermouth

Shake with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass. It should fill to just under the brim. Easy on the vermouth. Garnish with an olive or a lemon peel.

(To make it 'dirty' add an ounce of alive juice and garnish with three olives on a toothpick. If the olives are stuffed with cheese, even better.)

Cosmopolitain

6 counts Citron Vodka
4 counts Cranberry juice
Splash of lemon juice
Splash of Triple Sec

Shake and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon wedge

Chocolate Martini

4 Counts Vodka
6 Counts Creme de Cacao (Use the clear kind for best effect)

Shake and strain into a Martini glass with a sugared rim. (Rub the rim with a lemon wedge and roll in a dish of sugar.)

Put a Maraschino Cherry at the bottom. Women love this one because it tastes so different than it looks.

Irish Buzz

3 Counts Baileys
3 Counts Jameson
3 Counts Kaluah
3 Counts Frangelico

Shake with ice and strain. garnish with chocolate sprinkles or cinnamon. Or 3 coffee beans.

Not really a martini, but still amazing

Manhattan

10 counts Bourbon (maker's mark is best)
splash of Sweet Vermouth

Shake and Strain. Garnish with a cherry.

The alcohol for all these will cost you about $120. And don't think that you can get away with just stirring them. You need a shaker to break up the ice and really blend the ingredients. A Classic Martini should be foggy after it's been poured because of all the little chips of ice. Good luck with your party!

Martini's a quite broad term nowadays... you can have martini's that have nothing in common with what is a 'proper' martini... a lot of bars just whack a cocktail in a martini glass and presto it's supposed to be a martini... but anyway... here's a recipe for a 'proper' martini (either Gin or vodka)
-Chill Martini Glass by putting a few ice cubes and a little water in...
-Fill a Boston Glass with Ice
-Add 70ml of either Vodka or Gin
-Stir quickly for approx 40 seconds (back or barspoon touching edge of boston glass so as not to let the ice collide)
-Empty the martini glass and ad approx 5 mls of Noilly Prat (or another vermouth
- swirl the glass so as to coat the glass with vermouth and then pour away excess.
-strain the gin or vodka into your glass
-garnish with either a lemon twist or an olive

for dry martini's leave a little noilly in the bottom of the glass, and for a dirty martini add a dash of olive juice...

hope that's helpful

General recipe is 4 parts gin to 1 part vermouth. Most people take the full amount of gin with just a splash of vermouth. Vodka martinis are fantastic too. Go to a book store and there are bar guides giving you different recipes for the martini.

You can make a gin martini or a vodka martini.

I suggest either one. 1-1/4oz of gin or vodka 1/8 ounce of dry vermouth and garnish with an olive...

add ingredients to shaker with lots of ice and shake till cold then strain into glass.

My favorite is the "dirty martini"

4 oz. Vodka
A couple of drops of Vermouth
A couple of drops of olive juice
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with 2 olives.

You might also be interested in a "Leprechaun martini". These are great around St. Patrick's day.

3 ounces of vodka
1 ounce of creme de mint
A couple of drops of vermouth
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

You might also like the chocolate martini.

3 ounces of vodka
1 ounce of creme de coco
A couple of drops of vermouth
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass
Garnish with a maraschino cherry.

Enjoy!

A dirty martini is 2 shots vodka mixed with olive juice and 1 or 2 olives. Very good if you like olives.
