Caraway is the seed you taste in Rye bread (if you ever eat it) Possible substitures are Fennel (mor licorice flavor in that one) or Cumin seed. Both will work but just not quite the same.

Caraway seeds have a very unique flavor. There really is no substitute, but you will have no problem finding them in the spice aisle of your local supermarket.

I hate liver but I'd do a pound of it to avoid caraway and comparing caraway to fennel, anise or cumin is the biggest display of taste bud ignorance ever. The best use for caraway is to toilet flush it, however punishing the fish for your stupidity of buying the crap is rather unfair. As for answering what it tastes like, there is no likeness for it, just foulness - kinda like sin would taste.

they taste like licorice and you can use anise seeds instead of caraway seeds - though if you don't have caraway you are unlikely to have anise, right?

I would throw them in the sea because I know they would be happy there. And then I would throw myself in the sea and drown so that I could be with the porkchops forever and ever.
