Are there any lasting effects? Everyone has told me that the man that did my tat went in deeper than he should have because it hurt SO bad getting it done. (lower back) And I had two babies the natural way so I can take pain pretty well. Do they not hurt as bad if they don't go in so deep?

well i am a tattoo artist and yes if u go to dep it will scar but that is the extent of it and it is really not very easy to go too deep.. u really have to b trying to hurt the person if u go to deep bc u would need to set up the needle a little longer when u are setting up the gun. my advice is to wait until it is fully healed then go get some neosporin with vitamine e and put it on it every day for as long as u need. the vitamine e will reduce the scarring and bring out the color, but make sure you wait until it is fully healed b4 u but anything like that on it or it will take out some of the color along with the scarring.

Going in deep is basically being heavy handed it means it will hurt more and might have a easier time to scar or get infected if you dont take care of it an easy solution when using a new artist is watch him do somebody elses tat to see what he does if you can or look at his portfolio book and decide if its quality or if it looks to heavy and tats hurt when you have a needle puncturing skin and going back over the same areas but its not like your insides now resemble the tat because its skin ink not spinal tap so relax everything should be fine just follow the instructions if its new

If the tattooist went in too deep you could get an infectionmore easily and lead to scaring. However, being on the spine it will hurt more than anywhere else due to the nerves being so close to the skin. Just keep tattoo goo on it 2x day and it should be fine. And yes there is such a thing of the tattooist haveing the needles set too deep. It has nothing to do with education, it's for real! Someone needs to do their homework more.(steph)
Hope this helps and good luck!

How bad it hurts is NOT an indication of how deep the artist went. If an artist pushs ink in too deep the capillaries pick up the ink and carry it out away from the tattoo. So instead of having nice sharp outlines..... the lines look sort of fat and blurry.....this is called a blow out...its almost makes the edges of the tattoo look blurry. You may just have sensitive skin on your back....

Yeah its called scarring! I have scarring on my back tattoo... Looks like I was branded with color! Alot of times this happens when an artist is doing a solid color... Before you know it they have gone over it so much it becomes raw like hamburger meat! Ive had my tat (one of em) about 4 years and the scarring will be there for life! If you have scarring or raised tissue then yeah they went too deep... If it just hurt that doesnt mean it was done to deep (necessarily)! Find a reputable shop, artist, look at their portfolio, look for their state board license, see that they abide by state rules and regulations, etc! Pain depends on the person! Everyone is different! I had reputable tattoo artists look at my tat and they told me that he went too deep with the solid black and went over it too many times... This is reputable information from someone who has tattoo's!

You will get a very bad infection and will have to soak the area with epson salt ( any drugstore it can be found) and when the infection is over and there is no more pain, where the infection was, that part of the tattoo will be gone and be slightly sunk in. After about 1 month you can go and get the tattoo filled in as long as the infection IS GONE!

The only possibly side effect is scaring.

And he probably didn't go in too deep, he probably hit a nerve. Sometimes they hit 'em, sometimes they don't
