This may be a really stupid question, but I made chili for dinner and it's been cooking all day. As it's cooked down it seems to be getting spicier! I like it but I don't think my kids will be able to eat it. Is there a way to get rid of some of the hotness for them?

this might sound really weird, but i swear it tastes really good.

add the slightest bit of sour cream and mozerella cheese to a spoonful of your chili, and try it. it tastes really good, and at the same time it makes it less spicy. this is because the sour cream is a very basic ingrediant, like yogurt, so it neutralizes the flavor.
and the cheese just makes the chili taste better haha.

have your kids try it this way, it tastes really good!

Since you have been cooking it down all day I would go ahead and add a little water a bit at a time until it's like you want it. You could take your spicier share out first and dilute the kid's share.

There is no easy way to neutralize the capsaicin (what's making it spicy) in your chili. What you could do is ladle out enough for your kids and then "water" it down with beans or such. Best of luck!

Serve it over rice or pasta. That won't really make the chilli less spicy but will dilute the heat a bit.

Well if you put fresh jalapenos its better to add them at the end, so that way they dont sit in simmer with the chili from the beginning. try adding them 5 minutes before the chili is fully cooked.

Try adding some tomato soup to tame the spiciness

Add some canned beans and a couple cans of stewed tomatoes

Put it in a pot of cold water and boil for 5 minutes(oven should be very low). This will definitely get rid of some of the spice and will also add a new taste. It also will raise your metabolism by 6%(if you are watching your weight)

Adding a small potato, cubed will take care of it. Works every time, also works when you have added too much salt....
